EAGLE CREEK In the Oregon Journal of Nov. 5 we lead, in a report on the potato market by W. H. Dryer, of Dryer, Bollam & Co,, commission mer chants of Portland, tlie following: — “ I saw a car of Oregon potatoes in San Francisco that was the best I ever noted anywhere. It came from Eagle Creek, out on the Esta cada line, and was unusually fine. I believe it sold down there around $1.50 per hundred pounds.” These potatoes were all raised and marketed by Fred Iloffmeister and we think Eagle Creek ought to bt as proud of its good farmer as Fred was of his potatoes, Lewis Rivers just returned from a trip to the mountains. He says he saw lofs ot tracks but he brought no game. A party ot Eagle Creek men searched Estacada all over for liquor on election day, “ but could not find a drop.” They returned home on ah early car in much better condition than if they had succeeded. We said, when the agitation was first started, that we believed it was not a good change and gave our reasons for it. The few of us who thought that way at that time seemed so much in the minority that we simply kept quiet about’our views aud did not try to force them on a community that at least seemed to be favorable to annexation, par ticularly the country districts. Our local vote did not justify that conclusion however, As the voters became more familiar with the pro position aud knowing that Portland people were working for its defeat, the people did not approve of mak ing the change, The vote was about equal for and against in this locality.
