LO CAL N EW S
Are Arrested and
Heavily Fined
J. Wright, Oiie Haitsell and
Tim Hood, claiming Portland as
their residence, with three lady
c mipanions came to Estacada on
Sunday with the intention, as they
express it. of having a good time.
No notice of any unusual thing on
t leir part was taken until near the
close of the day and while waiting
on the last car, it is charged, they
conducted themselves in a manner
to give offence in public and near
the depot. Constable Jones spoke to
them about the manner they were
conducting themselves in and warn
ing them to desist which, however,
they not only failed to heed blit on
the contrary made light ot the good
advise he gave them and continued
in their misbehavior tiutil the
officer deputized Tom Jones, John
Bates and Willis Yonce to aid him
in making the arrest. Officer Jones
arrested a man who the other two
say is mimed Tim Hood and placed
him with Willis Yonce while lie
returned to take in charge some
others of the party.
Hates arrested one and Toni
Jones the other of the men, each of
whom resisted, but Hates threw his
man and was holding liitn when
the man Tom Jones was holding
broke away, ran and kicked Bates
in the face and broke his nose.
He was afterward rearrested and
locked up and gave his name as J.
Wright und address as 118 E. n th
St., Portland and said he worked at
the Portland Flour Mills. The
other man gave the name of Orie
Hartsell and said he worked at the
Multnomah Box Factory.
Tim
Hood paid his fine immediately
and he and the women were releas
ed and took the car home.
Wright gnd Hartsell were held
and given a hearing on Monday be
fore recorder Johnson at eleven
o'clock. Two charges each had
been placed against each of them,
"drunk and disorderly” and "re
sisting an officer" and against
Wright, the man who kicked Bates
the charge was "assault and resist
ing an officer. ” He pleaded guilty
to both charges and was fined a
total of one hundred and nineteen
dollars and fifty cents. Hartsell
pleaded guilty to being drunk and
disorderly but denied that he re
sisted an officer. Witnesses, how
ever, were heard who testified to
the resistance and he was convicted
and fined $44.50. The defendants
not being able to pay their fine
were remanded to the custody of
Constable Jones and locked up.
We think these people will know
how to behave the next time they
come to Estacada.
