It seems strange, even in Oregon
to read of an Indian battle being
fought this week near Pierce, Ok

band of belligerent Indians, has
been making things unpleasant for
the settlers in that vicinity. Three
hundred militia men, cow boys and
deputy sheriffs were in pursuit of
the red skins on Monday and had
put the band to rout and were trail

It was expected that his capture

Herring Ranch Sold
The R. C. Herring ranch com
prising 80 acres in Garfield has
been sold to Mrs. Kate Wanzer
Balkin, consideration $7,000. The
new owner is from Colorado. The
entire deal being conaumated
through the Estacada State Bank
as agent for Mrs. Dora B. Herring.
The purchaser will at once under
take to make extensive improve
ments, chiefly in planting
an
apple orchard as they will give
special attcution to fruit raising.
These people come to us well rec-
omended and we are glad to have
them locate among ua because
their success means that others who
are watching the results obtained
by them and if pleased and success
ful will follow their example and
come here. It speaks well for our
locality as a fruit district as these
people had visited several sections
of Chegon during two mouths look
ing for fruit land.
The Estacada State Bank is to be
congratulated on this, as well as
other deals they have been instru-
mcutal in making. Mrs. Herring
has not yet decided if she will re
main here or not.
