persons were injure d in the wreck of
Erie tr a in No. 4, Chicago to Now York
express, a t Geneva, Pa., a small station
eight miles west of here. The wreck,
railroad officials believe, was due to
persons h aving a grievance a g a in s t the
company opening a switch sh o rtly be
fore the passenger t r a i n ar rived . The
injure d were 1 rouglit to this city and
23 were tak en to a Spencer hospital.

over 50 miles an hour. Upon striking
the open switch the en tire train left tin
track, the locomotive tu rn in g over upon
its side. Two of th e cars, a combina

a wreck has occurred on the L ak e Shore
& Michigan Souther n Railroad, a t Chcs
terton. Ind., 50 miles from Chicago.

Reports from Chesterton, Ind., were
to tho effect t h a t five persons were
killed an d more th an 20 injure d. The
wreck was caused by a collision between
a passenger tr a in which left Chicago at
11:30 I*. M., a n d which ran into the
rear of an excursion tr a in Found for I n ­
dianapolis v ia th e L ak e Erie & West­
ern.
At the offices d£ th e railroad
here it was said t h a t b u t two or three
passengers were injured.
Owing to the isolation of th e place,
d efinite rep o rts wer e d ifficu lt to ob­
tain. Conf licting rep o rts were given by
the few persons t h a t could be found to
talk about th e wreck. The n u m ber of
cas ualties were given all the w ay from
two injured to five dead and tw en ty
injured.
