Senator C. W. Fulton was given
very honorable recognition by the
Republican national convention by
making him chairman of the cre
dentials committee. Fulton will be
taken care of when his present term
as senator ends.
No part of the Coast country pre
sents a more favorable and inviting
appearance to the newcomer from
the East than the Estacada country.
Our disadvantage lies in the fact
that we are at the end of a spur line.
I f a transcontinental railroad passed
thru Estacada, carrying hundreds
of people daily looking for new lo
cations and homes, many would be
attracted by the country and come
here to settle.
The News does not agree with
the judgement shown by someone
who writes from Estacada to the
city and county seat papers raking
up old sores, and engendering more.
We do not believe much In the pol
icy of permitting people to air their
personal troubles through the col
umns of the newspaper. The little,
immaterial differences between per
sons which are of no moment to the
welfare of the community at large
have no place in the newspaper
If we would allow such things we
could keep very busy in the work.
If you have anything good to say
of your community, your people,
hand it to us, but if you have a per
sonal grievance letter, send it away;
foreign publishers print them be
cause they attract attention to their
sheets. But the same thing about
their home citizens would be accept
ed reluctantly.
If the railroad company will give
the large bunk house back of the
hotel and move it onto a lot donat
ed by the City of Estacada, will the
people of the city and country vi
cinity furnish it for a fruit and veg
egtable cannery? This wsuld be a
very easy preposition to carry to
a success, and it would be a great,
good thing for the country and
town.

Eightythree votes were cast at
Estacada's annual school meeting
Monday evening.
It was nearly a
lull vote, and shows that our peo
ple take a great interest and delight
in local educational affairs, and are
inclined to goto the limit ill them
Chairman John Stormer called the
meeting to order, and John Love
lace read the annual report and the
minutes of last year’ s meeting both
of which were approved. Nomina

in order. The names of Mr Storm
er and Mr. Page were presented
Mr. Stormer declined to let his name
lie used, but after it was shown that
the people wanted him again lie
withdrew his objection, and lie was
unanimously chosen director for an
other term.
For clerk-treasurer,

were nominated, and the former was
elected on a ballot of 37 to 56.
