AttorneyC. Scheubel, Prof. Reid
of Parkplace and Clarence L. Ra
ton. were in Kstacada Saturday for
tl-e purpose of holding a public
meeting to discuss the county high
school question. This is one of the
important issues to be voted on at
the June election for Clackamas
county. It was lost two years ago by
nearly 200 votes. In some parts of
the county the people are hostile to
having high school courses includ
ed in the local school system, even
when the need is very great. This
is because Mossbackistn predomi
nates in these sections.
Oregon
City has no complete high school
course in its city schools. Nothing
above the tenth grade, and the city
lias a population variously estimat
ed from 3000 to 6000.
The pro
posed new law will place the main
tenance of all high schools in the
county on the people at large; that
is, the expense would be met by
general taxation.
Iistacada may
add another grade, the tenth, to its
school course this year, but unless
u complete high school course is es
tablished at a place the school will
not come under the provisions of
the prbposed law.
Another meet
ing will be held on Monday evening
next in the Methodist church in Es
tacada when the subject will lie dis
cussed and explained by the above
named gentlemen who have planned
to Le here at that tune.
