Ships Will Be Prepared to Sail On
Washington, Nov. 12.— Every detail
of toe preparations for the sailing of
the battleship fleet to the Pacific ocean
Is now well in band, and by December
16, the date on which the vessels will
pass out of Hampton Roads, in review
before President Roosevelt, members of
the cabinet and h'gh officials of the
navy, arrangements for the comfort of
the men en route will have been at
tended to. At all of the navy yards
the work of making necessary repairs it
being pushed aud these will be com
pleted by December 1. Provisions are
being stored aboard the vesrels, and
their coal bunkers are being filled to
their capacity. Four anchors will be
carried by each veatel so as to be ready
for any emergency.
The cost of provisioning the fleet is
estimated at about »375,UU0, contem
plating the feeding of a force of 15,0U0
men for 100 days. Only this week con
tracts were awarded for bead cheese.
