pany has increased its capital stock
to $250,000.

The annual report of J. C. Zin-
ser, superintendent of the county
schools, has been completed and
filed in the office of State Superin
tendent of Public Instruction, J. H.
Ackerman, at Salem.
Mr. Zinser
has traveled 1500 miles during the
year, and has visited the schools of
the county, comprising 125 districts
The enumeration of the district
clerks shows à total school popula
tion of 8524, and 4409 are boys and
4115 are girls.
Estimating the to
tal population of the county on a
basis of 1 to 5, there are 42620 peo
ple in the county.
The number of teachers employ
ed during the year was 201, 39 of
them men and 162 ladies.
They
received in wages $68,031.73 an av
erage of $57.13 for the men and of
$44.44 for the ladies.
The appli
cations for examination for county
certificates numbered 79, and only
four of this number failed.
In the county as shown by the
census, and the records of attend
ance, there are 2108 children of the
school age not attending school and
of this number 1059 are boys and
1049 are girls.
The number of le
gal voters for school purposes in the
county is 4540.
Two new school
houses have been built during the
year.
The average number of
months taught was 7.42 The num
ber of library books in the schools
is 7661.
The school houses and
grounds in the county are valued
at $207,218.
The total receipts for the year
were $128,285.66 of which $42,230.
53 came from the county school fund
$13,916.10 from the state school
fund and $22952.44 from the spec
ial school fund. The total disburse
ments were $107,536.84 Oregon
