PA R K H U R S T o f N ew Y ork | IIE last blow upon the SANCTITY OF MAItRIAGEi comes from a source which we \*ould never have anticipated, and it has come in the shape of a book entitled ‘‘The Family.” I have read it conscientiously from preface to conclusion, so that I am not dependent upon the cstchlines of sensational papers. The authoress expresses a shy distrust of nuptial purity, seems re luctantly willing to suspect that the ethics of the pasture may have to suffice for the ETHICS OF TIIK HOME, and so sets hesitatingly ajar the door that so many are wanting to sec widely opened into tho< unfeneed fields of promiscuity and LIBERTINISM. I am not charg ing the book with any impurity OF INTENTION nor with any sug gestion of sympathy with immorality. • I T M U 8 T. H O W E V E R .
