Such an error is not fa tal to the cause, and is not beyond correction by the magistrate, simply because it does not affect in any de gree the standing of the defendant in court. There was no war.ant issued because it was not completed and there was no court. Ex-Sena- tor Brownell might just as well have pleaded his case before our Cosmo politan Mayor, as he terms him, as to have noticed the court he did. However, everything was expedited along professional lines, and several of us are wiser for it. L O C A L N EW S Taft should be all right in giving tally, if that will count in Cuba. Perhaps if Puterpublisl.es a book as he says he will, some people who are known for their iniquities will receive a thick coat of* pewter. A s quietly and happily as going to a summer’s picnic, do Uncle Sam’s soldiers go to Cuba. And that is as seriously as we take the game of war these days. Henry C. Frick has just complet ed a $2,000,000 palace, but it takes 150 servants to do the work about it. and they’ ll enjoy it more than its owner will. That helps a little. The world will awaken in a very short time to the fact that, lying just north of the west central part of the United States, is a country almost equal to the Mississippi val ley in vastness and productiveness. Hardly anything is real and gen uine now-days, not even that fem inine wonder. Most everything is padded. And now the question is, shall Portland's population lie pad ded. The Journal says “ yes,” and The O tegoniansays‘ ‘no,” and there you have it. Again it has been demonstrated that the City of Estacada would be the grainer if the council would ap point someone to be it’s clerk’ s ad visor. We believe there is legal tal ent enough here to take care of the city’ s business in court affairs in a way t'111 the city will be the gainer and not the loser. G ive the newcomer the glad hand. G ive him to know that you are glad to see him, and want hint to stay. That you are pleased to have him help in developing this rich coun try. You, who have been here these many years, have performed your part well. Encourage the new comer that he may d6 his part as well. The stranger needs a word of welcome. Dont forget the social call, cither. Be helpful toward the newcomer. sley, lessees of the plant demanded that the attachment of the property be released so that they could pro ceed with their business.
