The English are a sagacious peo
ple. Not having a country of their
own that offers the best kind of in
vestments, they invest their capital
in foreign countries, till the interest

countries amount to over $62,000,-

The school teachers of Oregon
City are making an effort to have
their salaries raised. Here’s hoping
they succeed in their worthy ar.d
just demands. If there is a pro-
fess’on that should be well paid for
the work done, we believe it is the
teaching profession. The responsi
bility of the teacher is great, and
the result of his or her work has
much to do in shaping the welfare
of all coming generations. Pay the
teachers the liest wages, and insist
on them giving their b s‘. profession
al and good moral services in re
turn.
Eastern Clackamas county is go
ing to ask for a representative in thr
county court at the election which
takes place next spring. This por
tion of the county, more than any
other, is going to require the serv
ices of a commissioner during the
next few years.
New roads and
new bridges are to be built in this
part of the county, made necessary
by the settling here of hundreds o!
new and permanent residents. A
man should be chosen who is well
acquainted with the situation and
the country, knows its people and
their needs, one who will be fair
to all parts of the county.
