Hurlburt, president of the O W P & Ry Co., June 28, bought for $44,000 the stock held by Morrow & Campbell in the o W P Townsite Co. which has es- stablished and built up the town of Esta cada, 58 miles from Portland on the Clackamas River. Mr. G. W. Morrow, president of the townsite company, will retain that office until it becomes con venient for Mr. Hurlburt to make other arrangements. Mr. Campbell has re signed the vicepresidency and secretary ship and has been succeeded in those places by W. P. Ready. The change in the administration will accelerate the already rapid development of Estacada and surrounding country. The old firm has placed Estacada on a solid basis and brought to the town quite numbet of important industries. On Jan uary 12, 1904, the first fire was set to burn out the stumps for the townsite. and at that time there was not a building where now there are 400 people and a prosper ous municipality. The town has been in corporated, has a complete city govern ment, and yesterday voted unimously to bond the city for $5,000.00 to erect a new school house. Substantial business houses ere now standing where 17 months ago was noth ing but a body of timber and a small clearing; the Estacada Wood Manufact urinq Company, the Estacada Brick and Tile Company, the Kstac^ua Hotel and a number of other large concerns are among the institutions of the place. A water works system supplies the city, 96 pupils of school age are id the district, loo vot ers live there, and the plana made indi cate that P'stacada will soon be a manu- facturing center that will contribute nia- terially to the output of the Portland region.— Oregon Journal.
