A t the annual School meeting, held Monday, *3 voters were pres­ ent. The school board was present and the proceedings of the previous meetings were read, also the clerk’s report. The district has 96 persons of school age, and 44 of these did not attend school the past year. The number of legal voters in the district was placed at 90. The dis­ trict has received since its organi­ zation $ 2 17 .3 1 and has expended $243.95 leaving an indebtedness of $26.94 The school property, in­ cluding grounds, building and furn­ iture was estimated to be valued at $1,400 The new board of directors as elected iscomposedof J. A. Reed chairman for a term of one year; John Stormer for a term of two yrs, and R. A. Stratton for a term of three years. Oregon SHAM BATTLE AT FAIR What promises to be the most re­ alistic sham battle in the annal of mimic warfare will take place of the Lewis and Clark Exposition Jule 21 constituting the crowning feature of three days of military manuvers in wich at least 1,500 troops will take part. The battle will be made real­ istic be the shooting of cannon and small arms loaded with blank cart­ ridges, and is expected to prove one of the most popular of the many fea­ tures which have been arranged to make every day until the close of Exposition, Oct. 15, a special day. Adjutant-Gen. Finzer, in conference with President Goode of the Expo­ sition has arranged the more import­ ant details. During the first two days of the encampment at the E x ­ position there will be a dress parade and a grand review in honor of Gov­ ernor Chamberlain and staff. A number of competitive drills will be held. The battle proper will be be­ tween two detachments, one wear­ ing the hrowr. khaki uniform and the other the blue. The browns will entrench themselves on the hillside dirctlv west of the Exposition and await the approach of the attacking party of blues.
