The annual convention of the Or­
egon Development League occures
April 26 and 27 in the Marquam
theater in Portland. It is expected
that ever branch of the league will
be represented, every organization
is entitled to representation at this
convention. The object is to work
out ways and means for the devel­
opment of the state. The Estacada
Development League should be rep­
resented at the convention by it's
President, Major \V. K Haviland.
The Japanese and Russian fleets
are watching each other from a safe
distance of a few hundred miles. I t
is feared that if the squadrons keep
on there may be something happen­
ing that will make more good' Rus­
sians and Japs. The Russian main
squadron is in a French port and
the Japanese are endeavoring to get
France involved in trouble, and if
such a thing takes place Great Bri-
tian will take a hand in the war.

The
new firm is enlarging the stock and
will make every effort to meet the
wants of the people. They will give
special attention to the undertaking
work. Mr. Eyman has had 29 years
experience in this line of work.
Surveyor Kinnard in the employ
of the townsite company has made
a survey for a road to run east from
town along the south side of
J. \V Shafford's place.
This will
give the people living east of town a
more direct route to the city.
Fires were started in the engines
of the wood working factory Wed­
nesday, and Mr. A. Whistle, the
leading solo whistler, ran off a few
notes as a little exercise before the
engagement of the season begins.

from Boise City where he went to
make arrangements t o move his
family here.
He has purchased a
five acre tract on the East side of
town.
Prof. E. S. Surface was in Oregon
City last Saturday in conference
with Supt. Zinser and others in re­
gard to Clackamas county's educa­
tional exhibit at the Lewis & Clark
Fair.
Mrs. C. A. Bither is having the
small vacant room next to her can­
dy store converted into an ice cream
< parlor to lie used in connection with
the confectionary business.
A. W. Eekerson and R. A. Strat-'
ton were passengers to Portland last
Sunday.
W. P Ready was out the first of
the week on business for the railroad
company.
Baker Lichthorn is having his
bakery fixed up with a number of
noticable improvements.
George H. Sanford and family
are going on the Hoffman farm near
Garfield which they have rented.
Lew Tucker and family moved to
Sellwood, and will remain there un­
til work at The Oaks is completed.
Mrs. W. A. Heylman was called
to Spokane last Sunday by a mes­
sage announcing the death of an
uncle.
Mrs. T. J. Mathews is not quite
so well, having again suffered a re-
laps.
She may lie taken to Port­
land for treatment.
The wagon repair shop and black­
smith shop of Hall & Wertz at the
corner of Zobrist and Fourth streets
is nearing completion.
A. Morrow is adding a nice large
addition to his residence which will
make their home one of the finest
in the suburban district.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Cunning­
ham of Cazadero have’ moved here,
and are living in the' house vacated
by Lew Tucker's family.
There seems to be a desire on the
part of those who know, to purchase
desireable city property before the
rise in prices takes place.
Mrs. H. A. Williams spent the
past week with her people in Port­
land, and at the home of Mr and
Mrs. J. R. Landsborough in Oregon
City.
A ball game is expected to take
place on the local diamond, Sunday,
between the home team and either
the Cazadero nine or a nine from
Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. B. O. Boswell have
sold a half acre of their property to
John Page. Mr. Page will build a
residence on the lot and make their
home here.
I’ri s'dent Roosevelt is enjoying a
good time hunting in wild and wol-
ly West, while some of the promi­
nent journals are worn-ing them
selves about what the president will
do in the next campaign.
Will Practice Law
Mr. W. A. Heyhr.an has bought
two lots on the Boulevard driveway
and also a lot on Main street.
He
has already begun to build for tem­
porary living purposes, and intends
building a business block as soon as
possible. Mr. Heylman is a prac­
ticing attorney, and in connection
with the banking business, he will
practice law in Clackamas county.
It appears that this should be a fine
location and field for the business
in which Mr. Heylman will engage
