By oldest is meant which of the coun ties of Oregon has existed the long est time under its present name; It is Clackamas. But when Clackamas county was formed it was not a po litical subdivision 40 miles square, between the east bank of the W ill amette river and the summit of the Cascade range. It included all of i Eastern Oregon, the present states of Washington and Idaho and a por tion of Montana. Thus, it is not ! only Oregon’s oldest county, but it was also the largest legislative dis trict ever created in the old Oregon territory, and perhaps one of the largest in the history of the United States.— Telegram 14th.
