Christian Endeavor society. Mr.
Hypes is president of the Mt Hood
Christian Endeavor and his visit will

ciety of Dufur. All young people of
Maupin are cordially invited to be

ENGINEER LYTLE IS PROMOTED

Engineer Lytle, in whose charge
this section of The Dalles-California
highway has been since its construc
tion, has been promoted to the posi
tion of chief engineer in the place
of Engineer Wanzer, who har taken
an indefinite layoff. Mr. Lytle has
been succeeded by Engineer Bishop,
formerly in charge of the La Grande
Messrs. Lytle and Bishop went
over th propored new cutoff to the
Wapinitia ' road yesterday.. It is
said a new road will be constracted
to an angle from the Roy Ward
place and to come out; on the Mau
pin grade .somewhere hear .$he ' old
rock crusher site. ; This will cut" the
distance to the Wapinitia cut-off
several miles and will be a state
road. ; .
