A. and to nominate delegates to I the state as ociation meeting in Dc- eenibvr, and Mrs. DeVoe, who is on the committee to nominate the vice president and two members of the Oregon State Teachers association. Dan Poling was named as a member of the committee on resolutions. Hauled Much Flour Everett Richmond took a truck load of flour to Wapinitia Tuesday morning, the load going to th; Hart man store and being the product of the local flour mill. That institution is gaining in customers and is turn ing out as good a grade of flour as is to be found anywhere in the . country. PAGE, LINE AND PARAGRAPH A Once-A-Week Serrico to Weeklies and Semi.Weekliei Have you figured out the amounts of various feeds the dairy cow will need for the coming year? A cow weighing 1,000 pounds and giving 25 pounds of milk a day testing 4 per cent will require in one year, when the pasture season lasts for 8 months, 5,400 pounds of silage, 2,500 pounds of hay, and 2,000 pounds of grain. Larger or high producing cows will need a little more feed, and smaller or low-pro-, ducing cows a little lesss. Cyst formation of chicken is a condition which occurs occasionally is met any flock, and is not of an in fectious nature, says the Oregon experiment station. Although I is especially important tlial vegetables grown in Oreg n for shipment to other states be stand ardized and graded carefully, it is almost equally important to observe proper grades and standards in growing vegetables for the canneries cf the Ltate, says the experiment sta tion, as canned goods are bought on Corn This Month 's Economy ffN combination with fresh vege--JJ table, canned ones may often be t used to good advantage. For instance, a judicious blending of canned com with fresh squash, celery or tomatoes will result in a dish which is unusual and delicious. At the same time the reasonable price of the canned food will offset the higher cost of the fresh, and so will lower the total cost for the dish. Here are some recipes which slxvw how canned corn can be com bined with other foods. New Corn Recipes Summer Squash xviih Corn: Saute one sliced onion in three table spoons of drippings, add a pound of peeled and thinly-sliced summer squash and sauti a fw minutes tonger. Add one cup water, cover squash, and cook gently until tender. Add one cup of canned corn, one a close margin of grades. Careful grading even for local markets has also been found to react to the bene fit of the grower. FARM REMINDERS The condition known as blossom end rot or point rot of tomatoes is not due to any kind of fungus or bacterial parasite, but rather to ex cessive evaporation from the foliage, reports the Oregon experiment ita tion. It is especially troublesome where abundant foliage development iu to rich soil and plenty of mois ture, is followed by hot dry weath- r. This may be avoilej to some ex lent by moderate watering early in he season, and providing for ade- luate moisture supply right through he icason. It is important that the Bordeaux nlxturc used for peach blight con; trol be of the best quality, so that !t will adhere throughout the cn ;re full period, and that it be ap lied as soon as possible after the rop b removed from the trees, says he Oregon experiment ctatlon. Re inoua substances such as Licky fly paper are often hard to emove from clothing. Try tur- pontine, benzol, carbon tc-trachloide, chloroform, wood or denatured al- chol, "her, kerosene or gaMtne. Sun baths should be given to all well children to keep them well and ;to many sick children to help make them well. They should, however, be given carefully st first, exposing only a small area of the child's skin to the sunlight until he L used to it and has acquired a protective coat of tan. That age and health of the animal affect both weight and strength of the fleece, as well as mutton pro duction, is a fact carefully consid ered by the wool grower in culling his flock, says the Oregon experi ment station. It is believed that length and density mean less shrink age after clipping. Fineness of fiber is also an important consideration. PACIFIC NORTHWEST BOOSTED Union Pacific Railway Inct Throe Color Folder The scenic beauties of the Pacific Northwest are described in a three color folder, recently issued by the Union Pacific, containing photo graphs of Northwest attractions. "Heralded as 'The Charmed Land of Scenic Surprises and Glories,' the Pacific Northwest fulfils the travel er's expectations. It offers him warm ocean beaches, snow-clad moun tains, interesting cities or any form of outing activity he may desire. It has two Natonal parks, Crater Lake in Oregon and Rainier in Washing ton, either one worthy of a special visit; and two-fifths of the standing timber in the United States." This is the manner in which the folder recommends the Pacific Northwest t 17,000 raidroad ticket agents throughout the western states. eastern and mid- Your mbucription ii due pay op. teaspoon salt and one-eighlh tea spoon pepper and bring to boilinj?. .ieritan Corn : Saute one chopped onion in two tablespoons butter until golden brown, add one tablespoon flour and stir smooth. Recently the company announced it had discontinued the coupon giv ing and would start newspaper ad vertising as the rult of an adver tising experiment by which, through newspaper ipace, 200,000 customers were added on the Pacific coast in one month. On May 24 the new merchandising policy, with news paper advertising, was put into ef fect all over the country. "The result for the first week," said A. C. Allen, vice-president of the company, "was to bring in ap proximately 500,000 additional cus tomers to the United Cigar Store. The abolition of the coupon form of merchandising will result in a sav ing of approximately $3,500,000 h year, part of which sum will be turned over to a permanent increase in the use of newspaper space."
