Daaketball ,
Many games have been played by
this school during the last week,
The girls played a real game at the
tournament, although Maupin's best
forward was out of the game. At
the half Dufur led by seven bas
kets. A different line-up of players
suggested by Jesse Crabtree result
ed in the strengenthing of Maupin's
defense and made the last half
keenly interesting to the Maupin
iter. One player was out of the
game on personals during the third
quarter. Maiy Greene ranked high
est in the number of points with
eleven points to her credit for tha
purple and gold.
The girls are very proud of their
new suits, which the school board
recently purchased, and can easily
say that they took first place, in ap
m-arance when on the floor. The
boys are trying to make m think
that they will wear our pretty yellow
s6cks for baHball this spring, so yon
can see that hey, -too, think well of,

Tho Wapinitia boys journeyed to
The Dalles last Saturday and gave
a mighty fine exhibition of good
sportsmanship in competing with
other High schools of the county
for tournament honors. For our
opponent we drew , Dufur High,
which team we had previously met
at Dufur and got a 24 to 4 score,
in Dufirr's favor. Nothing daunted,
the boyj sailed into the game and
held the Dufur, aggregation to 12
poirjts, Wapintia secured 8. The
feature of the game was that neith
er side made a field goal in the
last half, only 2 points being made
by each side from foul goals.
The boys making the trip -were:
Melvin Walters, Eanaie Endersby,
Wilbur Matthews, Lloyd Claymier,
Frank HacHler, Marion O'Brien,
Robert Holman and Marion Howard
of the High school and Jerry Clay
mier of the grammer room. Mr.
Broughton and Mr. Claymier fur
nished the transporation. All the
boys xcept one were equipped to
play and were given an opportunity
to show their stuff. Jerry was our
timekeeper and aide to the score
keepers. The gang stayed until
the final whistle of the tournament
blew a'nd went home wishing we
had a place to play basketball at
Wapiniti'a.
