Frank MtCorkle came over from Dufur yesterday morning on mat ters concerning the sale of one of his cottages, Leonard Weberg was In from the ranch yesterday, bringing a couple of loada of wood for his parents, Ollie Weberg and wife. By grace of the powers that be "Butch" Copple is sojourning In town a few days, having come up from the metropolis. C. E. Tunison with his two daughters, Mrs. Carl Head and Mrs. Lester Crofoot, made a business trip to the county seat on Monday. Christ Fauerso, county roadmas ter, was in Maupin in the interest of hie candidacy for the position of county surveyor, on Tuesday. Sco his announcement in another column of this paper. EDUCATOR VISITS SCHOOLS D. V. Poling .f U. S. C. Talki to Student Body Maupin student body and faculty were finely entertained yesterday morning by a talk by D. V, Poling, a member of the faculty of 0. S. C, who was nere on a visit with his son, Dan Poling, of the local teach ing force. The Elder Mr, Poling spoke on "Standards of Conduct" of pupils and gave the pupils some good advice. During the meeting Mesdames Bothwell and Woodcock regaled those present with a duet, "Happy Hollow Tune." Quite a number of our people were present. "Carter" Hat. Lef t Us Elmer (Curley) Hare, for the put eeven months working as me chanic at the Maupin garage, has shaken- the dust of this place from his brogans and has returned to Portland, from which place he cane to this city. "Curley" made many frienda while here and many of them feel sorry he could not seen his way clear to remain In Maupin. He pull ed out last Saturday night. Sold Some Fords- Kramer Brothers on Monday com pleted the sale of a couple of new Ford cars, one of them a truck, go ing to Roy Batty, while Jim Baxter haa brought a new Ford roadster. The cars will be delivered next Monday. Cot One Deer Bates Shattuck and Bob Wilson returned from the Pisgah mountain country Saturday last, after hunting in the Snow mountain and other sections of the Blue mountains. Bates waa successful in getting a two-point buck, while Bob content ed himself with scaring several deer away by rifle shots which failed to land. Library Moved- The Maupin branch of the county library has been moved from the lower room of the Odd Fellows building to the office room of Joe Krarn-Vs old garegj Wilbir Mow has leen at work building shelves and otherwise putting the room in shape for the book, and the place now rescmu.'. a rw Horary room. Cut End off Thumb While' working on a circular rip saw at the new bridge George Dyer got his left thumb in way of the saw with the result that the end was cut off. George said the saw acted so quickly that he never had a chance to see where the severed part was thrown. Aid At Frank Creager's The Ladies Aid met at the Frank Crenger residence on Tuesday. We have not learned whether or not Frank has Joined the Aid, but if he has the society will have gained a valuable member. Visiting In Portland Mrs. R. E. Wilson is at Portland, where she will spend two weeks on a visit with her mother and daughter, Jean. During her absence Bob will play housekeeper, cooking some of his own meals, making his bed (maybe) and enjoy all the pleasure and liberties of a jolly bachelor. Da Janvier Ill Wayne De Janvier is numbered among those who are "suffering with an attack of the prevailing grippe. Since severing connection with the Resh grocery Wayne has been con fined to the house, not even having ambition enough to go fishing or hunting. Vacationing la California Charley Walker, wife and daugh ter left Tuetday morning for a va cation in thes unny southland Cal ifornia. The Walkers will spend moHt of their time in the southern part of the "Golden State" going by way of the Pacific highway and com ing back via The , Dalles-Columbia road. They will be gone about one month. While they are absent Charley Cunningham will take care of matters about the Walker ranch. Back From Montana W. W. Richmond and son. Ralnh. who left for Montana early In the spring, returned to Maupin today, ac companied by another son, Roy. That family of the Richmond clan will spend the winter about Maupin.
