I V Candidate For Sheriff I hereby announce myself as a candidate for office of Sheriff of Wasco County, at the Republican Primaries, May 18, 1928. If I am nominated and elected I will enforce the law and conduct the office in a courteous and economical manner. LEVI CHRISMAN Paid advertisement J Judge R. R. Butler's decision to become a candidate for the United States representativeship being relin quished by N. J. Sinnott will be welcomed by republicans in this parti4'110' of eastern and central Oregon, who , have long felt that Mr. Butler's po litical abilities rank him as worthy jof national recognition. , j The peculiar nature of the cam ! paign which must be made in order to procure the . will necessitate arduous work on the part of any candidate who hopeg to win. Judge Butler will have a strong kad by reason of his popularity in Wasco, Hood River Sherman, Wheel ,er and Gilliam counties. He is the present state Senator from Wa-o and Hood River counties, and he formerly served as circuit judge for the latter three counties. Judge But ler will get many votes in these five j counties, and he will stand an even ! chance in others in the district. ! It is estimated that a maximum of 5000 write-in vote3 will win the nomination. The actual winning fig ure probably will be considerably less than this, therefore it may be seen that large majorities in the five above-mentioned counties wjll be a big factor in favor of Butler. From the standpoint of ability Judge Butler is equal, if not su perior, to nil rivals for the nomina tion. He has a state-wide record for oratory, and the eloquence that has convinced many a jury would be a big asset in the national house of representatives when issues vital to Oregon are at stake. Also, Judge Butler had his political eye-teeth cut many years ago, and is thoroughly familiar with the maneuverings that , often play an important part in gain ing favors for a district ' Portland baseball fans auffered no shocks so far this week.
