DELEGATE CANDIDATE
President Levi Pennington of Pa
cific College, Newberg, has announc
ed his candidacy for delegate-at-large
on the Republican ticket Pa
cific college in one of the place?
of learning which was attended by
Herbert Hoover, and Mr. Penning
ton is desirous of being one of thoi;e
who may have a voice in nominat
ing Mr. Hoover for presidency". Mr.
Pennington has, as his watchword,
the following.
"I believe in promoting America's
greatnets and high character by
maintaining our prosperity and just
ly distributig its benefits, and by
faithfully and impartially enforcing
all laws, including the prohibition
laws. I believe in advancing Ameri
ca's leader, hip abroad by cultivating
international understanding and
good will, ad wish to see America
the leader in promoting world peace.
I beleive that all these ends will best
be advanced by electing as president
Herbert Hoover, good citizen, man
of affairs, able executive, human
itarian, patriot, and world statesr
man."
Correspondence courses in the
science of government are inexpen
sive, but it costs something to get
elected to an office where the know
ledge gained can be put into practice.
Teaching fire prevention in tchools
along with fire drills, is to be highly
commended. If our citizens of the
future arc grounded in the facts of
the .m understand the useless
no s of fire, we can look to a time
when fire will be reduced to a mini
mum.
The average citizen seems to for
get that destructive fires are a great
enemy of economy' and progress.
Eighty per cent of U conflagra
tions are preventable, and the result
of carelessness, ignorance or incom
petence. Very few fires may be
classed as preventable.
Educational organizations are la
boring to teach us practical fire pre
vention. Yet every year the great
fire waste cotinues.
It is to be hoped that 1928 will
see a decrease in the waste of money,
property, lives, time and damage to
industry. The movement to teach
prevention in schools will bear fruita
in the future, and its sponsors are
rendering a valuable public tervice.

Mr. A. B. See, the elevator manu

should take their A. B. Sees more

It appears that some women get
married only as a preliminary to
acquiring the fascination which ia
supposed to attach to a "dashing

A STATEMENT
by
GENERAL MOTORS
E
-T is the policy of Gen
eral Motors to maintain continuous improvement,
in every one of its car divisions, with no interrup
tion in production.
This means that you enjoy the benefits of
new engineering developments promptly just as
soon as they have heen thoroughly tested on the
1245-acre Proving Ground.
It means that you can note order the new
Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Oakland, Buick,
LaSalle, Cadillac, or CMC Truck, and receive
immediate delivery.
Behind this policy of continuous improvement
la an organization so widespread and resourceful
that it can make and sell quality automobiles
more economically than any automobile manu
facturer in the world.
In the north and south it lejrs and mills its
own lumber. Ia the east it makes its own ball
bearings and radiators. In tbe middle west it
produces its own plate glass. Its plants are busy
in 33 important American cities.
From almost 5,000 suppliers, its materials are
obtained steel by the hundreds of thousands of
tons wire by the tens of thousands of miles
upholstery by the acre nuts, bolts and washers
by the millions. Its sales and service take place
through 33,000 dealers. More thau 273,000 families
look directly to General Motors for their liveli
hood almost a million and a half men, women
and children in every community in the land.
Meaning so much to so many, General Motors
has felt a supreme obligation to look ahead.
Are there methods by which General Motors
cars can be better built to better serve?
Are there new ideas which ran increase the
Utility and pleasure and safety cf motoring?
Are there new materials which can add to
owner satisfaction?
Such are the questions that all General Motors
engineers have always asked. The answers have
made it possible, year after year, to offer an in
creasing measure of beauty in design, modern
performance, riding comfort and distinct style.
Thus in every price class, from Cadillac to Chevro
let, purchasers are constantly benefiting from the
General Motors policy of progress.
