He may dress his windows attractively, hang pla cards in front of his store and aend out crculars. He is bound to get a certain amount of trade as a result But the merchant who advertises in the local paper reaches a greater number of readers than he possibly could any other way. He has a story to tell The readers of the paper read every word of It; they are look ing for certain goods and when the merchant tells them he has what they want it naturally follows that he draws their trade his way. People read the advertisements; they have learned that by so doing they save money and art able to obtain Just what they want when they want it Being penny wise and pound foolish in the matter of advertising hat caused many a merchant to seek cov er under the bankruptcy laws. Now comes some misguided Zeal ots from Missouri who are agitat ing a statue to Jessie James, to be placed in some prominent spot Well and good. We sugggest that aw a lasting tribute to the outlaw that tablet be sunken in the base of the statue bearing a picture of a widow and children, a wrecked train, broken bank, a group of murdered men, the whole backed up with cross ed revolvers symbolical of the tolls used by James in his nefarious call ing. By all means advertise Jesse James, but be sure and tell what he really was. The other two Grand Championxhips were won at the American Royal, and Chicago International Shows. This achievement is typical of the attain menU of the animals exhibited at the Pacific International. Similar successes have lecn repeated many times in the history of Pacific International, Indicating the importunce breeders of high types of animals atUch to the West's own great Livestock epic. The 17th Annual Exposi tion will be held at Portland October 29 to November 5, inclusive. The 1926 Crond Champion Rum will probably be exhibited again, this year.
