A case of rank malpractice on the part of a couple of Portland physi cians resulted in a verdict of $6,250 being awarded Mrs. Geo. II. Gill, daughter of Mrs. W. II. Staat3 in circuit court at Portland last week. Some time ago Mrs. Gill, who was suffering with a nervous malady, went to a doctor in Portland for con sultation. While there she was told to go into the operating room. There, her doctor, with another phaician, operated upon her in place another lady whn was awaiting tha call to. the operating table. The physicians were told of their error, but the operation being made there was no way in which they could un do their work. Mrs. Gill, as soon as she was to be around, entered suit charging mal practice against the operating doc-' tors, and a jury in Judge Hewitt's court awarded her the amount above as damages. Three of the jurors are said to have refused to sign the ver dict, saying their idea was that of the full amount, $15,000, should have been given the plaintiff. Mr. and Mrs. Staata were called to Portland last week as witnesses for the plaintiff. Hans Blazer of The Dalles was in Tygh Monday. , Raymond Doerinf of The Dalles was in Tygh Monday. C. E. Orvill Davis from Moro was visit ing old friends in town on Monday. Those from Shaniko who attended church at Antelope Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler, Mr Moody, Miss Spalinger and Mr. and Mrs. II. "ESMERALDA" CLASS PLAY By Special Arrangement "Esmer alda" Will Be Shown April 29 Great Northwestern Bridge The proposed new bridge across the Columbia River at Longview and Rainier is interesting the people of Washington and Oregon. At a recent state' and federal hearing in Portland the following facts were brought out: Costs of bridge and approaches, $3,400,000. Total length of bridge, 3618 feet. Approaches, 500 feet. Width of ship channel span, 750 feet, from center to center of high pier. Height of ship channel span above water, 165 feet. Depth of river in ship channel at low tide, 30 feet. Tolls for passengers and vehicles fixed by government agencies. Bridge to be erected and main tained by private capitial, without expense to Oregon of Washington, or to counties or cities on either side of the rivw. A four act comedy-drama, "Es meralda," has been chosen as the of fering of the Senior class of the Maupin High School, and will be pre sented at the school auditorium on the evening of Friday, April 29. Special arrangement with Samuel French, well known publish-! er of plays, was entered into for the j production of this comedy here. It : is a copyrited story and besides be in? extremely well written has been arranged to give play to all the tal ent, possessed by the average high school students. Admission has been placed at 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. Frank McCorkle to leave. Frank McCorkle has made nrrang ments to transfer his residence place form Maupin to Dufur, and will soon ship his household belongings to thut place. Mr. McCorkle has effected a trade whereby he becomes jKisseesor of a residence property in Dufur.
