He will dis cuss the conduct of the state's busi ness from the point of view of a conservative, economical, hard-head-business man. Those of our people who have radios will hear some thing to their advantage by tuning in on KOIN that evening, for .Mr. Patterson has a message of interest to all. 1 OoooooooooooooooooooO o PICKED UP ABOUT TOWN o OoooooooooooooooooooO Conrad Hauscr of Tygh Valley is a very mild tempered man, but when a Washington sheriff makes him punglc up money for a second paymt nt of taxes on the same prop erty, then Hauscr shows how high the bulb of a Swiss temper can climb. ; x A man from over cast was in Mau pin last week trying to sell stock in the shale oil fields said to exist near Clarno. His line of "bull" did not go over very strong with Maupin people. Jim . Woodcock is about to lose what little hair he has left. - The Housewives Council is getting our power man all worked up arjd Jim is tying hard to work out figures to re fute those advanced by the propon ents of that measure. Dave Donaldson is at it again tying to catch all the big fibh in the river. If he succeeds he will have to lay in a supply of stronger tackle, for a Dolly Varden exerts some pull when hooked. It has been suggested that our city fathers erect a big sign at either end of Deschutes avenue calling at tention to the speed limit. ' By so ing they may be the means of pre venting a serious accident, especial ly at the lower end, near the High school. Bill Staats is tender hearted. He says that to eat one of his tame trout would make him feel like ha was a cannibal. x Prof. Nagcl likes to fibh, but the next time he goes up the river and climbs the rocky bnnks he will wear shoes other than those designed for a tennis court. Frank Stuart believes in boosting for his home town. In Saturday's Oregonian he is quoted as saying "Maupin is all there and up coming strong." The right sentiment we say. Gus Derthick says there is but one thing harder on clothing than rose thorns, and that is barbed wire fence. Ho knows. More (logs From Maupin Julius Shepflin shipped another carload of fat hogs to the North Portland market last Saturday night Mr. Shopflin is one of the most suc cessful hog raisers in this section, his shipments of porkers ' always bringing the top liinrket price. He accompanied the last shipment to Portland. Wreck On Maupin Grade. A Portland man figured in a slight spill on the grade near town yesterday morning. He was driv ing a new Hudson auto and in mak ing the turn did not slacken speed. As a consequence the car nearly ran into the fence on the left side of the roadway and the driver ap plied the brakes, causing the rear wheels to skid, which had the effect of throwing the car into the bank on the right side of the roadway, which caused the car to turn over on Its left side. Both fenders, and lights on the left side of the auto were ruined, but no glass was broken. The car was taken to the Maupin garage for repairs.
