The Tum-A-Lum Lumber com
pany Wa the successfulbidder on
the construction of a new school
building to be erected on the L. B.
Kelly plaee, near Wapinitia, the
bid bcjng $ 1,000, The structure will
be 20x28 feet in size and will rest
on a concrete foundation. Lew Wil
helm will be in charge of con
struction, and he figures on begin
ning work Monday next.

The Brown Stage company has
sold it stage line running between
The Dalles and Bend to the Colum-
bia Garage company, which took
possession Monday of this week.
The Rainbow restaurant has been
designated as stage station for Mau
and there tickets, time cards and
all other information may be had.
Running time has been changed so
that the stage formerly arriving at
Maupin at 10 o'clock now gets here
in the evening, while the noon bus
arrives in the morning for Colum
bia river points.

Fire Department Called Out,"
The burning of a rubbish pile in
the lot just back of the John Foley
residence this morning, called out
the fire department. The fire had
spread to the dry grass adjacent to
a woodshed. A stream of water was
soon played on the burning rubbish
and grass and extinguished without
much trouble.
