For some reason or other the Maupin-Dalles stage failed to make its schedule Tuesday. Miss Regina Muller of Tygh was in town Tuesday selling chances on a Fad a radio receiver. D. L Rutherford and Ed. Willis Norval and Henry Mil ler were Tygh Valley residents who were transacting business) in Maupin last Thursday. Joe Kramer installed an At- water-Kent radio receiving set at the Maupin Garage yesterday. The set is a nine-tube affair. Geo. Claymeier, Harry Lewis and Fred Laughlin were Wapini tia Odd Fellows who Attended the last meeting of the local lodge. Mrs. Lester was hostess at a dinner party Sunday, given to Mrs. Vere DeVoe. Mrs. Deeg, Mrs. Morrison and Mrs Turner, teachers, as guests. C. M. Farlow was in town Sat urday, bringing a bunch of cattle from the John Ayers ranch at Waraic, and which were shipped to Portland that night. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dyer left for a three-months' visit in the east Monday night. While away they will visit friends in Nebra ska, Iowa and Missouri,. The Criterion phone line has been completed as far as the Fischer garage in Maupin. It will be connected up with the local exchange this week; Mr. Cottrell, representing the Washington Nursery company of Toppenish, Washington, is in this vicinity in the interests of the best nursery stock obtainable. Secretary Leon Frazier of the Dufur fire department was a welcome caller at this office last Wednesday. , Mr. Frazier is act ing as local editdr of the Dufur Dispatch and is making good at that work. Clem Mathews, who has a string of gallopers at the Tygh fair grounds, with his father and partner, left for Tia Juana, Mexi co Monday to look over the rac ing stock there. Jack Marrow ran into a spike while on his way to Maupin from The Dalles Sunday evening. One tube was fractured beyond repair and Jack delayed nearly three hours by the accident. Trout in the Deschutes must be pretty . hungry these days. John Foley reports seeing , big trout jumping after black knats and almost hitting the banks in their efforts to secure food. Our mailing clerk mixed things up somcrhat last week. Pack ages were wrapped in wrong wrappers, which caused a num ber of our subsribers to loose out on last week's copy of The Times. The new telephone directories were delivered to the Telephone Exchange Monday morning. They are the product of this of fice and are the cause of much favorable comment on fine ap pearance and general arrange ment. Rev. Sprouse expects to leave for his new home near VVoodburn some time next week. He is now arranging to have his house hold good 3 freighted over by truck. The family will. follow immediately. O L Lawson and wife, the latter daughter of Wallace Far gher, were in Maupin Saturday. They spent the night at the Far gher ranch and on Sunday .pro ceed to Bend, where Mr. Law son is in business. They had been to Portland. In the card of thanks published last week anent the death of the Lester Crofoot infant, those who contributed flowers and who ex tended aid and sympathy during the illness of the baby, should have been extended the thanks of the bereaved parents and rela tives.
