G.'Todd went to The Dalles yesterday and had a new cast placed on the arm she had broken about two months since. Dr. L. C. Stovall and wife were among those who attended the funeral of the late H. F. Wood cock at The Dalles last Thursday. o Peter Kirsch and family left for Salem yesterday, and will spend the holidays there and at Stayton, visiting with relatives. o A. E. Troutman and family have gone , to Portland, where they will enjoy the Christmas season with friends and relatives. Ben Smith of Fort Rock, De schutes county, was a guest at the H. D. Lewis home at Wap initia several days the first of, the week. o " Carl and Coy Dragoo and wife were guests at the iranit Dyer home last week, leaving for their home at Eugene Sunday morning. Miss Lorraine Stovall, who is, attending the state normal at Monmouth, came home Friday night and will remain until after the holidays. The Maupin Drug Store sold a Hoffman piano to 0. S. Walters Friday, and the instrument will serve as a Christmas gift to the Walters family. The snow storm of Sunday broke down several, telephone wires leading from Tygh. A re pair man from that point spliced five breaks on Monday. o Leonard Chastain and wife came to town Tuesday from their Bakeoven ranch and looked over the Christmas displays with the idea of Christmas gifts. Marshal Derthick auctioned off a stray horse Saturday. Dolph Goetien bought it for a single plunk and now has another mouth to feed during the winter. The Shady Brook Grange hall walls are being covered with wall board this week which will make the hall both more comfortable and attractive to the eye. o Mr. Fox, who is installing the heating plant at the high school building, is a World-War veteran and attended the high jinx at Le gion hall last Saturday night. Butler has installed a new idea in both his stores a printing ar rangment which stamps his ad vertisement in the center of each strip of wrapping paper torn from the roll. The road grader went off the I road on the hill Sunday and had to remain there until the grader truck from the Criterion section came and pulled it to the road again. Keep in mind the second an nual ball of the Maupin Volun teer fire department, to be given at Legion hall on the evening of Thursday, December 31. It will be the best of the season. Miss Marjorie Tillotson, who is attending 0. A. C, came up from Corvallis Sunday and visited with her brother, Geo. Tillotson, and wife a couple of days, then went to her home at Tygh Val lev. where she will spend the holidays. . While Clyde Bonney was on his home from Shaniko Saturday his car went "de'ad" just east of town. The service car from the Maupin garage hauled his auto to town and workmen at the gar age soon had it in shape to travel on to Tygh. -o ' Lloyd McCoy had a spill in his auto near Wapinitia Monday evening. He was on his way home from Maupin and in mak ing a turn in the road his car turned turtle, the intense fog making it impossible for him to see where he was driving. o The Legion dance at th hall tomarrow night will be all that the soldier boys say. The Broad wav Novelty orchestra, which will play for the dance, has been here before and created a most favorable impression. Frank contemplates getting Christmas dinner there, too. People from all over Wasco county shopped here this week for Christmas. W. H. Williams has a new hack for his stage line to Flanagan to carry parcel post and Christmas presents. W.' H. Staats & Co. have for their customers a very attractive calendar, picturing "The Land Mark," in harmonziing colors. 0" Preparation is under way for a Christmas entertainment to be given at the mission here. A program of recitation and song will be given by the Indian chil dren, and there will be a Christ- mas tree, aiso. aimnasno cor respondence. Joe Kuckup has just completed the erection of a barn 30x40 and is now enlarging his house.
