IULY 3 1, '1924 NO. 43 ORDINANCE NO. 53 An ORDINANCE . to provide for the issuance of the Town of Maupin Water Bonds in the sunj of twelve thousand five hundred dollars ($12,500); to provide a form for said bonds and the cou pons attached thereto; ratifying, approving and confirming the sale of said bonds and declaring an emergency. ' WHEREAS, heretofore at an election duly called and held in the Town of Maupin on the 16th day of May, 1924, a charter amendment was duly adopted by the legal voters of said .Town authorizing the Council of ssU Town to issue bonds of taid Town in the sum of twenty five thousand dollars (25,0C0) for the purpose of procuring funds to construct and install a water system for said Town; and WHEREAS, it now becomes necessary to provide for the issuance of twelve thousand five hundred dollars ($12,500) of said bonds and a form therefore and for the coupons to be attached thereto; now, therefore, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF MAUPIN: - Section 1. That the Town of Maupin do issue its bonds in the sum of twelve thousand five hun dred dollars ($12,500) said bonds to be in denominations of five hundre'd dollars ($500) each, numbered I to 25 inclusive, to bear date July 1, 1924, and to mature July 1, 1944, subject to redemption, however, at the option of said Town at any semi annual c'oupon date on and after July 1, 1934, said bonds to bear interest at the rate of six per cent (6 per cent) per annum, payable semi-annually on the first days of January and July, principal and interest to be pay able in United States gold coin of the present standard value at the Fiscal Agency of the State Oregon in New York City, said bonds to be signed by the Mayor and countersigned by the Record er under the corporate seal of said Town, and the interest on , saiti bonds to be represented by semi-annual interest coupons at tached thereto bearing the en graved facsimile signatures of said Mayor and Recorder, which said bonds shall be known as "Town of Maupin Water Bonds" Section 2. That the said Town of Maupin Water Bonds and the coupons 'attached thereto shall be in substantially the following form: lw O&l JLlk It I . FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS on the first day of July, 1944, with interest thereon from the date hereof at the rate of hx pet cent (6 per cent) per annum, payable semi-annually on the first davs of January and July to the fearer of the respective coupons therefor hereto attached as they mature, both principal and interest payable in United: States gold coin of the present standard of value at the Fiscal Agency of the State of Oregon in New York CilyN The town of Maupin hereby expressly reserves the right to redeem this bond at any semi annual coupon period on or after July 1, 1934. This bond is one of a series authorized and issued under and pursuant to the provisions of an amendment to the charter of said Town submitted to and ap proved by the legal voters there of at an election duly called and held therein on the 16th day of May, 1924, which said amend ment authorized an issue of bonds of said Town in the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000); for the purpose of procuring funds to construct and install a water system for said Town And it is hereby certified that every requirement of law relat ing to .the issue hereof has been duly complied with and that this bond is within every debt and other limit prescribed by the constitution and laws of the State of Oregon or the charter of said Town. And for the punctual payment of the principal hereof and the interest hereon the full faith and credit of the Town of Maupin is hereby irrevocably pledged. Section 4. WHEREAS, the bonds hereinabove provided for were duly authorized at an elec tion lvnilarly called and held for the pit - pose; and WIlbi!EAS, it is necessary that funds be procured at as early a rlnte as possible for the purpose for which said bonds are issued, thereby- involving the peace, heal! h and safety of the Town, and in order so to do it is necessary to enact this ordin ance; now, therefore, AN EMERGENCY is hereby declared to exist and this ordin ance shall go it. to force and effect upon its adoption and approval. Con- sidering the condition of the grade leading west out of Mau pin it is believed that if the material in the gravel pit were put through a "crusher before being used on a roadbed the re sult would be . practically pave- ment. . Mrs. O. J. Williams had an exciting experience Monday in driving over to Maupin. About a hundred yards below the turn in the road at B. F. Turner's residence she attempted to shift into intermediate gear and by mistake shifted to reverse and backed off the bank, the ma-j chine landing on all wheels with no damage done. Percy Driver made a trip over j from Wamic Tuesday bringing the county tractor for repair work in the Maupin Garage. Little ten - year old Elmer Kramer of Tygh Valley suffered a bad cut on the leg Tuesday I evening when he fell under a disc harrow. T'llotson made a trip to The Dalles Tuesday for a new car. ! Construction Engineer Kohler and crew of five men commenced work Tuesday building the catch basin for the head waters of the Maupin springs. M. F. Van Laanen is building a tool house for the town i f Maupin, it later to be used to fiouse a fire hose car t. The Maupin Garage sold the State Highway Department a new Ford this week, Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Ruther ford and children, Mr. and Mr?. James Chalmers, and Floyd ai d Stuart McLeod amended the funeral of Mrs. Uitherfora'i father in The Dalles Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Mays and daughter passed through here yesterday on their return to Berkley, Calisornia, after couple weeks looking after interests in this county. - G. VV. Smith purchased a new Overland last week of the Mau pin Garage. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Staats went to Portland yesterday. H. Wood was in the Simnasho section Monday, repairing cars. St. Helens territory should see the steam shovel that has been working on this section of The Dalles-California highway the past several months they would bo certain the apea had done a vicious attack on it. When the said steamshovel com menced on the excavations here last fall it had the appearance of being almost new, but at present the cab of the great machine is LOCAL INTERST Mrs. Mark Stuart and cVddren arrived last evening and are making their home in the Lake Cottage.
