Derthickwho i3 employ ed on the highway south of Maupin visited over Sunday with his wife and parents at Dufur. Claude Jones made his first trip of the season on his truck line, Thursday of last week, stating that the roads are now in first class shape and that he will give continuous service from now on. A number from here attended the dance at Wamic Saturday evening. The cabinet member that does not get his portrait done in oil will have something to brag to his grandchildren about in later years, as it seems that a great many are being boiled in it right now. D. Pacquet of the construction Company was looking after the Co's interest here last week re turning to Portland Saturday morning. W. M. Nickerson and family of The Dalles were Sunday visit ors here looking after their ranch and renewingold acquaint ances. Mr. McMillian, founder of the Wasco Observer, later removed to Moro, was a caller at the. Times office last Friday. Mr. McMillian related some of his experience 6b years ago when he snd his partner. Mr. Bright bought the discarded Goldendale Sentinel equipment, moved it to Wasco, started publishing their paper for 400 paid in advance subscribers, a number of big pay ads from Portland wholesale houses, and at one time in their experience had 42 final proof land notices for which they were payed $14 50 cents each. The old time newspaper man was on foot enroute to Bend, saying he thodght of printing again a3 his eyes were better than they had been for several years. For sle, 2 tons of alfalfa hay. Kistner Acquitted James Kistner, charged with a statutory offense involving a, 15 year old girl, under a grand jury indictment, was acquitted in the circuit court yesterday evening. Kistner was until a few months ago a resident of Tygh Valley, where the girl also resided. Lack of evidence and corrobora tion of testimony was given bv one of the jurors today as the reason for the verdict of not guilty. When the jury first voted the ballot 6tood six to six, it is understood. Three ballots were taken and Kistner was freed on the third. Kistner said he met the girl To Reside Here Ralph Newland, district engin eer of this section of The Dalles California highway, who has had his headquarters at Madras for the past two years is today mov ing his office equipment to Maupin where he will take per sonal supervision of thirty miles of construction work on the highway.
