' A few skirmishes of snow fell in Maupin 'Friday night which melted the next day. Frosty nights have been weather feat ures this week. Dad Coale went to Portland last Thursday night to dispose of a shipment of about $1700 worth of furs. Since his return home he has a numberof exciting stories to tell again. world. Andee Kistner left here last week for the John Day country where he will try his luck at trapping beaver. Mr. and Mrs. II. E. McClain were business visitors in Maupin last Friday. Forest and Burke have pur chased the Crescent garage here which has been operated byF.E McCorkle and the new firm took over the business this week. Mr. Forest is an expert mechanic having been with the Buick people in The Dalles ' for a numler of ' years and comes highly recomended. PRATT, VVAMIC III J George Lofton our tonsorial artist was visiting relatives and freinds in Iinod River last week and says that most of the 'peaches"' down that way look like they were frost bitten. Andy McCabe our popular blacksmith was visiting in The Dalles last week and ordered a chestnut tree which he will plant n front of his shop. J. E- Feck highway engineer spent Sunday with his family in The Dalles. Mrs. II. A. Muller, son Paul and daughter Regina were Dalles visitors Saturday taking in the football game while there. The Highway department are erecting an office building in the auto park, and should a flood come as we experienced a year ago -they will need a pilots license and considerable experience in the art of navigation before they reach the Columbia. Miss Marie Kerr was taken to the hospital in The Dalles last week ; and operated on for appendicitis and at last reports was doing nicely. Martin Wing visited his father in The Dalles hospital last week and reports him slowing improv ing. Fred Miller v;as a rooter at The Dalles-Albany football game in The Dalles Saturday. Ralph Chandler- and family and Floyd Johnson and family spent Sunday visiting relatives at Wamic. Guy Brittain and Claude Jones visited at the Marion Duncan home on Smock prarie Friday.
