Roach, for the last five years section foreman here on the 0. W. track, died at The Dalles hospital last night of peri tonitis. He had been quite ill Sunday and Monday and when easier was removed to the hos pital where he lived only a short time. Mr. Roach was a native of Ireland, about 55' years of age, and a railroad man of long ex perience in the northwest. Funeral services will be held Friday morning under the auspi ces of The Dalles Catholic church A new car of lumber and shingles arrived for the Tum-A-Lum yards here Tuesday. Saturday a story was carried to the effect that contract has been let for the Dufer-Tygh Valley stction of The Dalles-California highway, the last gap on the highway not either com pleted, in process of construc tion or under contract, between this city and Maupin. Only one stretch of the "main road" now The Dalles-California highway, that between the end of the present contract out of Maupin and Cow Canyon, in the extreme southern part of Wasco county, is not under contract for con struction. Wasco county within the next two years will have as fine a system of good roads as any in the state, if not the finest. This is progress, and a record of which any of "its citizens should be proud. Slusher farm home at a big Thanks giving dinner. Judge Fred W. Willson yester day signed a decree in adjudica tion of the water rights of White River and tributaries. The de cree covers 30 typewritten pages and before making the findings, Judge Wilson spent several months in hearing petitions and i remonstrances. Several hundred people are named in the decree. The decree was filed with the county clerk yesterday after noon. Chronicle, Saturday. The Federal Land Bank of Spokane has entered suit in the circuit court against W. H. May field, et ux, and the White River National Farm Loan association for the collection of a note by mortgage for $3,200. The note was Bigned July 5, 1917, and there have been no semi-annual payments made since January 5, 1922, according to the complaint. The mortgage involves 280 acres of land situated in section 31. township 4, south, of range H east and section 6, township 5. south, range 12 east, The plain tiff complains also that to the best of belief, defendants May field have abandoned the prop erty and the Spokane bank seeks recourse at law to obtain satis faction of mortgage by the sale of' the property. The loan is said to have been made through the association, which indorsed the note. Times. $1.50 a year. Mrs. Anna Smith is visiting in Sandy and other valley places.
