went to The Dalles Monday. Mrs
Evick is being treated at the
Hamilton hospital for ptomaine
poison. Orval is staying at the

John Lewis has put a new
roof on his garage and Matt

Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Kelly were

Mrs. Davis arrived Wednes
day from Estacada and is visit
ing her sons here.
Earl Hartman of Silverton
spent Sunday here with his
cousin, E. A. Hartman.
Among those from here attend
ing the celebration at Dufur
Monday, were J. M. O'Brien
and family, Richard Delco, Ma
bel Lewis. Mabel Walker, John
Lewis and Dee Woodside.
The school program Saturday
night was excellent and well
attended. Proceeds amounted to
$123. Maupin people in attend
ance were Dr. and Mrs. Stovall,
Harold and Earl Lock and Floyd
Richmond.
Ben Teschner of Portland was
an over Sunday visitor with his
brothers here.
Mrs. Lloyd purchased a fine
new piano last Saturday.
C. W. Flinn and family came
over from the agency Thursday,
visited at the Dave Sharpe home
and thence to The Dalles. Mr.
and Mrs. Sharpe also went in
Sunday, when a reunion of all
the children was enjoyed at the

Timothy Kirsch, ' who 'is a
younger brother of P. J. Kirsch
of this community left last Wed
nesday morning for his home at
Salem, Oregon. Mr. Kirsch, has
been a great help to his brother
by assisting him get his potatoes
ready for market.'
Ben Herrling has been employ
ed the latter part of the week
hauling potatoes for his brother
Otto and P. J. Kirsch.
C. B. Dahl of Tgh Valley has
been up in this locality bargain
ing for the potato crop. Most of
the sales have been around a
dollar.
D. L. Rutherford took his wife
and two children to The Dalles
last Monday. Mrs. Rutherford
expects to remain in The Dalles
a short time for menical treat
ment and to visit her parents.
Services and a program were
held at the Lakeyiew school
house last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs.
Sprouse of Maupin gave short
talks on temperance. The
Sprouse's had quite a little trou
ble cause by oil running out of a
petcock, which was accidently
left open. Two connecting rods
were burnt out which Joe Kramer
replaced.
C A. Duus and family motor
ed to The Dalles Wednesday,
taking in the election returns
from this precinct. They ex
pect to remain a few days to
have their son Bonney fitted
with eye glasses which he has
been needing for some time.
Most everyone here has re
covered from the recent epidemic
which caused so many to be ill.
P. J. Kirsch's exhibit of pota
toes rated quite nigh at the state
fair, taking second prize.
P. Fry and Edwin Kidder
have been hauling potatoes to
market byieam the past week.
The election here was very
quiet. A total vote of eleven
was cast, eight for and three
against the income tax bill.
Loco DeCamp has rented the
Charley Skogsberg ranch and so
contemplates farming on a some
what large scale than heretofore.
W. E. Hunt is constructing a
new barn, utilizing the lumber
from the Clyde Whitlock home
stead.
Supt. Gronewald paid the
schools out here a visit on elec
tion day, leaving a sign at the
Criterion school which signifies
it has met the requirements for
standardization for three succes
sive years.
G. F. McLeod and wife made
atrip to The Dalles. Mrs. Mc
Leod may remain for some time,
but G. F. returned Saturday
with C. A. Duus.
Ernest Kramer suffered a
fracture of his right arm from
cranking a Ford on Saturday
evening.
Cur beautiful days have van
ished. We are having rain and
fog instead.
Chas. Skogsberg is spending a
few days at the ranch.
Ernest Kirsch celebrated his
fifth birthday Saturday by giv
ing a birthday dinner. The af
ternoon was spent in playing
games, poping corn and toasting
marshfnallows,
