Mnn(lav in October. i -j The indications now are that there will be fonrteen boys and nine girls at the high school. Some of the boys are veterans of baseball and the track but only a few have had previous football training. The boys will be coached by a former University of Oregon man, who played three seasons on the Varsity team 'and who was a member of the first championship team the Univer sity of Oregon ever had. Those boys who love athletics wjjl find themselves in their element at Shaniko, A five piece orchestra has been organized and excellent progress has been made. We expect to have three additional pieces with in two weeks. The young people at Shaniko have the right spirit and only a continuation of present activities is necessary to make this a happy and never-to-be-forgotten year in their lives. Every ambitious boy and girl will find a welcome. Conditions are ideal for a school. Parents who wish to build into the lives and character of their boys and girls those elements and traits that make for good citizenship will find what they are looking for at Shaniko. Hazen, fruit inspector, accompanied by Mrs. Hazen were guest3 0ver night Monday at the Frank' Magill house from The Dalles. J. S. Smith, of Happy Pudge and George Lewis of Wapinitia were here Monday. Many viewed the eclipse of the sun Monday. Claud Roberts came over from Grass Valley Monday where he has been helping Frank with his harvest work. He left a few days later for the Willamette Valley where he will work in the fruit orchards. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gesh returned the former part of last week for Toppenish Wn. where they were called by the serious illness of Mrs. Emma Day. Percy Driver went to The Dalles Monday. C. S. McCorkle is helping in the Lake store. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Woodcock and the writer went to The Dal es Tuesday remaining until Thursday. School commenced here Mon day with Mrs. John Chastain as teacher. Willie Norval went to The Dalles Monday. . Herman Gesh and Geo. Duncan went to The Dalles Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burlingame came Wednesday for Bend, leav ing yesterday for Hood River, Mrs. Henry Dake came up from Portland Tuesday and will remain two weeks with her par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Lake. Frank Magill and family, Clay bourn Palmateer, Amos Johnson and Winston Lake attended the show and harvest ball at Tygh Valley Saturday night. Zene Watkins was here Sunday buying a veal from Liberty Chastain. Mrs. Thelma Mulvandy and two small children spent last week with J. R. Woodcock. Dr. Elwood was called here the former part of last week to attend Mrs. Luella Johnson who is at the Ralph Chastain home. Emmit Zumwalt and family went to Sherars Bridge Sunday. W. T., Vard and Mrs. Norval went to The Dalles yesterday. Mrs. H. L. Driver and two small sons, Francis and Donald came up from Portland Saturday Tim Beaty was badly hurt Saturday by falling from a scaff old at Hood River where he was doing carpenter work.
