Lake and Jimmy and Barbara Ward from Portland to The Dalles, Friday evening Mrs. Lake and Jimmy came on out here Saturday with Mr. Lake and little Barbara re turned to Portland with Dr. and Mrs. Dake. t Mrs. A. E. Lake was called from Wn. where she was visiting her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Ward and family, by the sudden death of her brother Johu BraPly. Mr Bradly fell just after entering his home following a shsrt walk. He expired immediately from an attack of heart trouble. ' He was 72 years of age. The Odd Fel lows conducted the funeral rites at the house and the Elks had charge of the ceremony at the cemetry. The burial was" in Ore gon City, Mr. Bradley's home on Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Driver. Lenore Woodcock of Smock and Carmel Woodcock went to The Dalles Saturday remaining over night with relatives. They wit nessed the parade. Hazel Johnson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Frank Driver to Dufur stopping at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Short. They took her to The Dalles where she saw the big parade. Ed Driver, Willis and Tom Driver and their families went to The Dalles Saturday. Mrs. Jessiline Morrison and two children Frank and Edith were Dalles visitors Thursday from Maupin. They remained until Monday guests of N. W. Flinn's Mr. Morrison brought them home. Percy Driver went to The Dal les Saturday and brought his wife and son Percy Brenton home from the hospital Mrs. D. A Harvey accompanied them to town and back. Claris Zumwalt and Velma Crofoot went to The Dalles Mon day. C. S. McCorkle came up from Portland Friday. Mrs. Mary J Sw?ft came with him. She had been staying the past month with Mrs. Lydia Patison. Mr. Mc Corkle was driving a new Ford car he had just purchased in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. II. A. Muller, Rogina Muller, Carl Dahl and wife and K. L. Hauser went to The Dalles from Tygh to see the Elks carnival. Henry Miller and wife were in The Dalles today from the White River plant. Tommy Batty who visited in Maupin with relatives last week returned home Tuesday; Laura Davis came out Sunday from Maupin where she had been visiting at the home of her broth er Aaron Davis. Ella Shipflin was sick Sunday. Maggie Delco is in Prineville spending her vacation with her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Ray. Sam Wall and family visited 0- L. Pacquet on Sunday. Pete Olsen and family came over from Shaniko Sunday and visited Mr. and Mrs- L. M. Wood- side. There daughter Gertrude remained with her grand parents Mabel Lewis' spent Sunday with Mamie Walker. Roy Woodside returned home on Sunday evening from Corvallis where he had been for a short course at 0. A. C. F. G. Magill and son Robert spent the week end at the Geo. Magill home in Wamic. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Bigbee left The Dalles Monday bound for Pittsburg to spend the summer with their sons. They expect to return by way of Canada. Sunday the Pine Grove Sun day school entertained the Wapi nitia Sunday school at the grove on the old reterson place. A good time was enjoyed by all. A joint session of the schools was held for a study of the lesson after which lunch was served. The afternoon was spent in sing ing hymns. Mr. and Mrs. Perle Evick re turned from the valley last Fri day. Their vacation was sadden ed by the death of their son-in- avv Sol Weigle who was accident- ly killed while workihg at -the Roberts sawmill ten miles south of Philomath. He was driving a team with a big log and coming to a hill side, to prevent the log frotn rolling put out one hand to steady it but it proved too much and rolled upon him, passing over him it fractured his should er and literally crushed his liver. His suffering was intense. He leaves his young wife, a mother and seven brothers. Miss Jane Hartman a sister of E. M. Hartman with her neice Hazel Hartman both of Silverton arrived here Tuesday for a visit with relatives. Walter Driver and family of Tygh Valley spent Sunday even ing with Mr. and Mrs. Woodside. Men expecting such employment will be, required to work on fires if they occur, for the same wage for a day of 10 hours but no board will be charg ed. Smock News F. T. Feltch and Farlow Bros, have very heavy crops of clover and alfalfa. George Ledford and wife were in our vicinity last week visiting his cousin Mrs. Cecil Mayneld and his brother S. G. Ledford and family. They were on their way to Big, Meadows for the summer. Mrs. Cora Foster is spending the week in The Dalles, where her husband Roy Foster joined hsr and they will attend the Elk Convention. C. Morris of The Dalles and C. Duncan are helping J. M. Far low put up hay. Mr. and Mrs. Mack Mayneld motored to Dufur on iriday, I. T. Courtright of Friend was in our vicinity on Friday. H reports Mrs. Courtright as im proving slowly, ., Mrs. M. B. Feltch and daugh tr Iona are contemplating mak ing a trip next month to their old home in Colorado. L. J. Root came in from Th Dalles on Saturday to visit his daughters. Mrs. Ayers and Mrs, J. W. Farlow and families. H recently purchased a farm of W, Norval north of Wamic. Miss Ercell Cervin has return ed from Bellingham Wn., where she graduated from State Normal school. We are glad to have her with us for the summer. She will teach at KalamaWn. next year. Annual school meeting passed off quietly. Albert Hill return ed from The Dalles to be present Mr. Hill has been taking medica treatment in The Dalles. Picnics are being planned for the 4th of July, as every body does not care to go to Dufur, W hy not a picnic? Talk it up strong, as the time is short. We are glad to see the genial countenance of F. Magill again on the rural route, after a lay off visiting friends and relatives in Portland and Molalla.
