Snakes vs. Honey One often hears of a bear with a sweet tooth when it comes to honey, but with our old friend the rattlesnake now, that's a different matter. Who , ever heard of a normal Oregon side winder with a sweet fang? Not one, but many such have a delectable taste for wild h( ney if a story imparted to The Chron icle today at the state highway commission office is to be given any credence. N. W. Reese, engineer, btais the onus of this tale, which is passed on unabridged altouc.h we reserve the right to mental reservations. According to Reese, explora tion of the rock fiseue on the new highway up Eight Mile, where a ballot' rattlesnakes was found last week, revealed a honey cache vuiiLauiiHg mice uiiijitcibLU! Ul Nature's confection. Sweet fang or not, the snakes were ex terminated and the highway workers took the honey The snakes were only a , few inches from the honev- the lr ?, naturally to be presumed iho manufactors and sole proprietois were not. One would be prone to assume that the rattlers gobbled the bees, there being a sympathy be tween the two, each packing a nice brand of stinger, but the workers up Eight Mile helieve otherwise. They think the rat tlers moved in on the honey be cause they had a taste for it, and decided to den up there bo side a full quota of winter rations Anyway, that's that! Chron icle Decmber 5th. II.
