DECEMBER 22, 1921 THE YEAR $1.50 P 3 ile Dance Hall Ruling An important change has just been made by the Bureau of In ternal Revenue in the tax on ad mission to dances. The Regulations heretofore have held that Where the admis sion for men was $1.00 and wo men were admitted free, $1.00 was the established price of ad mission and women who were admitted free were required to pay 10c tax the same as men. Where the admission price for men was 50c and for women 25c, it was held that the tax on both men and women was 5c. Ry the ruling dated October 22 it is now held that women are not admitted to a dance under the same circumstances as men and that, there-fore, in the case of free admission admission of women to a dance where a char ge is made for admission of men such free admission shall not be taxable. Where men are charge ed 60c and women 25c admission the tax on men will be 5c and on women 3c. This ruling will aff ect so many people in the State of Oregon that I am sure your readers will be interested in any publicity that you may give to it and this office will appreciate your kind co-operation in the Around Maupin Get your supply of woolen blankets at Wilson's. The Student Body has recei ved $37.1.5 for the purpose of buying candy, nuts and decor ations. The total amount up to date is $27.00. For trimmings $1.10. For candy, nuts and sacks $25.90. William McClure, Treasurer. The Student Body and the members of the school wish to thank the patrons and people oi the Community for their gener ous donations towards the Christ mas tree. The decorations are all put up and the room looks very attrac tive and we hope that the prog ram will be a grand success. Every one is welcome. There hasent been as much school work the last week as usual on acc ount of practicing for the pro gram but we think we havt made good use of our time ano we want you to come and sec whether we did or not. The ther has prevented those live out of the district from ending. Some of them are drift ing back, and we expect to have them all soon. The school will not be closed for vacation, as we are trying to regain lost time. There will be no school on the Monday after Christmas or New Years, but school will be held on the other four days of each of these weeks. An impromptu Christmas pro gram will be given in the inter mediate room Friday afternoon, December 23. There will be a Christmas tree and a present for every body, The pupils of each room have drawn names to ascertain who will be the reci pient of their Christmas offering Mr. Maddron showed Christmas psirit and procured a tree for us. We have reoeived two copies of the American Magazine, which the high school pupils sub scribed for, as their school maga zine. These papers are being read and studied by the students who find that the magazine con tain many interesting articles and stories. A Huntington piano was pur chased from Lipman & Wolfe for the high school. Mrs. C. M. Bigbee, former teacher of the high school selected the piano for us. The proceeds of the basket social constituted the first payment and the remainder of the price is to be paid on easy terms. Josephine H.
