Another year is before us and
I trust it will be as pleasant and
profitable as last years was and
even more so.
Let all grade pupils bring what
books they know belong properly
to their respective grades and
come prepared to work the first
day. If you are uncertain of your
books come any way and we will
provide you with work until the
books are sucured. If any have
good second hand books they
wish to sell have them at the
school Monday with the price a
greed to by the parent and we
will try to place it. This applies
to high school books also. If the
text is to be used this year.

ent will strive to be in place
Monday Sept. 12 at 9 a. m. Some
classes will not be positively de
cided upon till the majority wish
ing certain subjects have been
determined. So if you are not
there you may miss the class you

open on September twelfth.
There will be three teachers in the school ; two in the
grades and one in the high school'. The high school is STANDARD and
meets all of the college entrance requirements. Typewriting, short
hand and bookkeeping also will be taught. -
.It is the desire of the school board to extend the
usefulness of the school to the greatest limit, and to that end all
pupils will be welcome, thrice welcome.

hay, grasses for pasture, corn,
fruits and other farm crops.

Obituary ,
Rev; Isaac.Jamison Powell was
born in Missouri, April 19, 1843,
died September 6, 1921, having
attained the age of 78 years, 4
months and 17 days. . ' . .
When two years old he grossed
the plains with his parents who
were among the earliest settlers
in the Willamette valley. When
a young man he obtained the
best education that the schools
of that time afforded- His en
trance into public life was first
as a school teacher. His career
as a minister of the gospel began
iti 1865 when he was given quar
terly conference license by the
United Brethern church at Sub
limity, Oregon. In 1867 ho was
granted annual conference license
signed by Bishop Shuck at Port-
and. He was ordained at Phil
omath, Oregon, in 1895, Bishop
E. P. Kephart performing the
rite of ordination. He saw more
than 40 years of continuous ser
vice as a minister of the gospel.
Rev. Powell was one of the
pioneer ministers of Wasco coun
ty, coming here over 42 years
ago. The whole county was his
parish in that early day when
settlements were first being
made.
, Mr. Powell was married to
Miss Adelia Collver in Coos
county, Oregon, January 18th,
1870. This union continued for
50 years, Mrs. Powell having
died in June, 1920. Ten children
were born in their home. The
following eight are yet living to
mourn the loss of their beloved
father: Herbert Powell of Hover
Wn., John Powell of Wapinitia,
James Powell of Hartland, Wn.,
Mrsi Anna Brown, of Portland,
Mrs. Eva Heisler of Dufur, Mrs.
Bessie Niekerson of tygh Valley
Mrs. Lida Killian, Grand View,
Wn., Mrs. Myrtle Niekerson,
The Dalles.
The funeral services were con
ducted by Rev. Parker at the
home of William Niekerson at
Tygh. Interment took place in
the Kelly cemetery.

was admitted to the Oregon
State Bar at the last session of
the supreme court. Mr. Ellin
wood holds degrees of Bache
lor of Laws and Master of Laws
from the New York University,
1912, has been admitted to the
New York Bar and Washington
Bar, and has practised two years
in New York and three years in
Seattle. .
Two young men, members of
the Chronicle force made the
Times office a fraternal call this
noon. They are enjoying a few
days' vacation at Oak Springs.

E. Wood died Tuesday at his
home in Tscoma. Funeral ser
vices will be held tomorrow.
Mrs. Wood went from North
Bend to attend the funeral. Mr.
Pratt had been in poor health
since the flu a few years ago,
but had lately seemed improving
He was about 67 years of age
and is survived by his mother
who is past ninety and lives in
California.

Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wilson of
Portland motored over the high
way Sunday morning and were
guest of their son R. E. Wilson
and family the first of the week.
