APRIL 8 1921 VOL 7, NO 26 THE YEAR $1.50 Interest Shown The Case Tractor and Oliver Plow demonstration conducted on the H. F. Bothwell ranch in Fairview district Tuesday was a success in every way. Many farmers attended during the day Sandwiches and coffee were serv, ed at noon. The Case Company were rep resented by J. B. Small and Fred Slake, and the Oliver Plow Works by W. E. Wilson and A. C. Barbo. Special interest was shown in the work of the Culti-Packer used in breaking the soil where it is crusted around fall grain. The cooperation of A. M. Winn, Maupin's high school prin cipal in dismissing school for the afternoon and attending; en mass was very much appreciated by all and showed a spirit atone with our merited 0. A. C methods. The program was opened in the morning by the MaupinHigh School Orchestra who played a few selections, fol lowed by selections by The Dalles quintet, a talk by Mr. Tallman and a talk by Mr. Cannon." A sumptuous repast was then ser ved by the good ladies of Maupin and communities, in the inter mediate school room, where nearly two hundred people were served. After luncheon The Dalles quintette opened the program followed by a talk by Mr. Tatero on "short cuts in Arithmetic". Mr. Cannon then told a number of good stories. The program was closed with a few selections by the Orchestra. Three cheers to Mr. Cyr for helping the Orch estra and two cheeis to the members. The result of the third and rourth grade examinations show Lelah Weberg fourth grade leader and Harold Whaite third grade leader. Last Tuesday afternoon the children and teacher of the primary room went flower pick ing, all had a nice time. The class leaders of the inter mediate room are; Eighth Clair Green. Seventh Jean Wilson. Sixth Helen Weberg. Fifth Earl Green. Those averaging 1)0 or above; Jean Wilson, Winifred Kaiser, Helen Philmlee, Clair Green and Helen Weberg. The pupils of the high school and intermediate rooms together with the teachers, Mr. Winn and Miss Pagey-went out to fi.sk Both wells-ranch Tuesday after nocm and witnessed the Case Tractor demonstration given by R. E. Wilson. The demonstration onsisted of two tractors, one pulling: a three bottom plow, the other a double di3c and a packer The pupils took their note books along and male the afternoon a real study period along with the pleasure. The afternoon was en joyed greatly -by all, and the obj ect of this was to bring each pupil in contact with the real work itself rather than just an explanation of it. We wish tr extend our thanks to those wh furnished us a ride oui then and back, They were Mr Chastain, Mr. Sbattuck, Mi Beckwith and Le3ter Crofoot. The girls are still spending a portion of their time after school each evening on practising foi the track meet atTygh. A record is being kept this week of tht time it takes each one to run the potato race. A committee is working on the program to be given Salurdav evening, April 23rd. The ones taking part in the intertainnunt are busy preparing their part3. There will also be eats of dif ferent kinds for sale. Every one is welcome. A meeting was held at the B. Cook hall Tuesday by the Athletic club. This was supposed to be a business meeting but sucli a small number of members were present the business was pospon ed until next Tuesday evening All members are expected to be present a3 we have so much busi -ness to discuss. score at the finish being 5 to 4 in favor of the home team. The game next Sunday with The Dalles promises to be one of the best games of the season We ara glad to learri Bill Miller will be in the line up for this game. We are fortunate in getting so many good games scheduled at home. If the attendance proves sufficent to warrent it the local managment intends to arrange the larger portion of the games for the season to bo played on the local field. Highway Sure! Base Ball The base hall game last Sun day played between teams from Antelope and Maupin proved to be an enjoyable affair and full of interest from start to finish.
