PauJIae, France, August 11, '18
Dear Friend,
Your very welcome letter was
received today and was sure glad
to hear from you and glad to know
that Maupin is still ou the map.
France in a very pretty country.
Everything is nice and green. It
is a great country for grapes, and
they are getting ripe. The roada
are the best I have seen for some
time, It is very warm here and
rains quite often. The people are
very nice, MoBt of them can't
talk any English at all, and they
sure like to see the Americana
over here. But wsth F'tatice and
all her beauty, I will take mine in
the U. S. A.
Well I guess we will be back
before long I hope, and when I do
I am coming right back to old
Maupin. So all the boya are
leaving. Everything must be
rather dead and I guess farm help
must be pretty scarce now as all
the fellows have left. The time is
going pretty fast over here, but
not so fast for me aa I am anxious
to get back home.
I have been over here about six
months now; hail a very good trip
over. Would like take it over
again. There are quite a few boys
from Portland with me and I
know most of them, po I am nnt
alone. I only wiBh there were
some of my own home town boys
with me, I would not feel eo lone
some, but I am going to make the
best of it till I get home again. I
would like to linn in the old De
schutes again.
I haven't taken any pictures
since I loft, and my camera is at
