Mrs. A. L. Johnson, from Col burn, Idaho, arrived here last week and is visiting at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack son Rice. Henry Richardson's came out from Keep's Mill Wednesday. They expect to leave here Sunday for the Valley, Stillmau Goodenough has pur chased a Ford and will leave in a few days for Sherman county. A party (to last page) NEWS ITEMS OF LOCAUNTEREST First Grain In The first threshing in this sec tion commenced Sunday when II. L. MorriB started his baby com bine on Job Crabtree's place one and one-half mile west of town. Bates Shattuck who has sold sever al of these Machines this summer was present to see it operating correctly. The work was com pleted and Mr. Crabtree looked plased as he delivered it to the Maupin Warehouse Wednesday and Thursday. C. A. Bargrnhult, Mrs. Con Smith of Smock and their cousin, Mrs. Emery of Colo., motored to White Salmon where they spent a few days with I. T. Courtright and wife. Mrs. G. W. Mallatt's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hol land of Soio, are visiting her" and will remain until after harvest. Mrs. Holland is an accomplished musician. Mrs.' Ida Gates, little son Charlie, Clay and Leone Whit, comb of Smock, spent the past three weeks visiting at the home of I. T. Courtrights at White Salmon, Wn. T. J. Whiicomb came July 2nd and epent "the Fourth, returning with the family the 5th. Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Stovall, Dr. and Mrs. II. V. Hatfield, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Shattuck, Miss Weter gard and Clarence Fargher com posed a motor party to the agency le 3rd remaining over the Fourth Mr, and Mrs. L. D. Kelly re turned last week from a two weeks trip to. Reno, Nevada. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Hughes. F. M. Confer had a little run-away yesterday morning when the coupling pole broke under a h ad of hay, turning the front whoils free.
