Wapinitia Items Ed Davis met with an accident the first of the week while fogging for the Hediii sawmill, a pure of limber flying and striking him in the eye. He went to The Dalles Wednesdry to receive treatment. Dr. Shannon has been called sever al times during the past week to see Billie Sturgis who is quite sick Mrs. N. G. tied in and daughter Mova left last Suuday for Portland Mies Jennie Hartman, Mrs Barba Moore, sisters of E. M. Hartman of this place and Miss Hazel Hartman, a niece, who have been visiting bora the past week left Tuesday for their homes in the valley. David Sharp has been quite sick the past week. .Dee Woodside and O. L. Pnquet shipped a car of cattle Saturday, A number of the cattle men of this vicinity are out on a ride gathering up the fat cattle and several carloads will be shipped Hailed Out During the thunder storm here Saturday hail stuck the Raknoven section and destroyed the grain crops of G. W. Mallatt and Lester Holt. The latter was uninsured. This is the third year in four that Mr. Mallatt has suffered lofw by hail. The insurance covers about of the loss and was taken out only two days prior to the storm. The crop covered 11Q0 acres; tne last of the week. J. S. Brown has a new farm well under construction ou his Pine Grove property. Haying has commenced here and harvest will soon as consider able fall grain is almost ripe. Rev. Geo. Chapman and family arrived here today, Thursday. J. S. Brown cut his first crop of alfalfa hay last week from ground seeded last year. The local Red Cross has received a new consignment of work and the BigVe house has been filled up for work roomB this summer. About 500 head of cattle belong ing to several parties near Dufur passed through here the last of the week for the mountains to feed July Fourth '"! Wapinitia, Oregon, I wish to place before the Plains people a correction to the effect tat the Wapinitia Plains Commer cial Club and allied internets have reconsidered the plan for a cele bration on the Fourth of July. No general celebration will be staged. A good many friends will gather in the Kelly and Abbott groves, also at Clear Lake in the mountains where the spirit of cele bration will be remembered quiet ly by each group. N. 0.
