Candidates' Notice County Treasurer To the republican voters of Wasco county: I wish to announce myself as a candidate for the nomination of county treasurer, subject to the will of the republican voters at the primary election, May 17, HH8 m8 Oliver It. Krier. Sheriff I hereby desire to announce my self a candidate for the nomina tion for county sheriff, subject to the will of republican voters, at the coming primary nominating election. Bradshaw as Circuit Judge. 'Under the law this ap pointment hold only until the next general election andthisof fice i; one of those which the people will be c'lllcd upon to fill next November. During the hist nine months I have endeavored to fulfill the duties of Circuit Judge faithfully and justly, without any fear'and without' any' favor. If it is agreeable to the voters of the Seventh Judicial District, I should like to be elected as Judge Brad sliaw's successor and therefore an nounce my candidacy for the republican nomination for Circuit Judge. Harris, Republican candidate for the nomination of County Treasurer is the wife of J. I. Harris a well-known letter-car rier of The Dalles. She has been a residnt -of The Dalles for ten years. She has always taken an interest in politics, moral uplift and reform work and since the women of Oregon have had the franchise she has always worked to the limit of her strength in the different campaigns for the city, county, state and .nation. She is member of the M. E. church, W, C. T. U. and the Rebeccas. Her slogan is: "Vote for me and ielease one more man for war service.'' Wamic News 'Uncle' Ed Driver was very ill the former gart of the week but is quite recovered. Miss Crystal Pratt spent several days in The Dalles with Miss. Dorothy McCorkle, returning Mod day. Mrs. Julia Trait who assisted with the postal and telephone work here a few days returned home Tuesday. Harry Muir of Westfall spent several says here last week at the Ed Wing home. Mrs. Annie Byrd had an experi ence Tuesday that she will not soon forget. She was in the cor ral to milk when a sow escaped from a pen near by and attacked ner 18-months-old babe who was playing in the yard. The child's screams brought Mrs. Byrd to its- rescue. She clasped the boy in her arms and fell fainting to tlif ground. The hog ceased attack and ran away. Dick Palmateei und son Clifford were plowing the garden close by and hastened to the scene. Some time elapsed be fore they were able to revive her. Geo. Wing returned from Kent a week ago where he has been plowing. - Mrs. Dollie Kistner was called to Toppenish, Wn., a week ago by the serious illness of her sister Mrs, Hattie Johnson and her hus band, Sam Johnson. Mrs. J, somewhat improved, but there are no hopes for Mr, J.'s recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Geo, Wing were Tygh visitors Tuesday. Miss Harriett Palmateer receiv ed a letter Tuesday from Maiie Xavier telling of a serious acci dent that befell her brother Joe about three weeks ago. Mr Xavier was driving a hay when the team became heightened nnd nn away throwing him under the rake when one tine penetrated his knee. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is just now ab! to be out again. A war saving society was organ ized at the Bchool here Tueeda'y, with a membership of fifteen, rep resenting a saving in War Stamps and Thrift Stamps to the amount ofif'JOl, an average os $18.40 for each member. Much interest is being manifested in this organiza tion throughout the community The officers elected were Winston Lake president and Claris Zum wilt secretary. Mrs. F. Palmateer has so far recovered from her recent illness as to be able to sit up some. A hea,vy south wind swept this place Wednesday. J. H. Eubanks and family moved' home from Juniper Flat Wednesday after spending the winter there. J, E. Kennedy went to The Dalles Thursday to meet Mrs. Kennedy who was returning from Portland. Tommy Norvel accom panied him, going on to Willovve where he will visit relatives. C. S. McCorkle took a load of wheat to Maupin Thursday. C. T. Clausen of The Dalles visited this place Thursday. D. M. Shattuck of Maupin was here Friday, Torn Swift went to Juniper Fri day to take charge of the J. W. Davidson place while J, W. took a load of fae hogs to Portland, Mrs. Davidson accompanying him A force of men were engaged last week in building a new grade on the Gate creek hill. Juke Spath and son Frankie came out from The Dulles Fiiday remaining till Sunday,. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. McCorkle were Dalles visitors Saturday. Judge Fred W. Wilson, Sheriff Levi Chrisman, Clerk L. B. Fox and W. L. Yates were here Satur day afternoon on tneir way to Maupin, coming from The Dalles. Vernie Norvel passed through town Saturday with a hand of jattle taking them to the foothills He also drove a bunch through tod a jr. H.E. Driver delivered two loiSds of wheat in Maupin Saturday. J. M. Patison and family were over from Dufur Sunday, guests at the A. M. Patison home. Mr. and Mrs. R. II. Darniel and daughters of The Dalles and Mrs. O. Leabo of Eight Mile were guests at the Harrison Johnson home Friday to Sunday. Jack Swift and two little daugh ters were over from Antelope Sun day.
