Walter Sharp of Wapinitia were united in marriage in the presence of only the immediate relatives and friends. The beau tiful and impressive ring ceremony was read by Rev. M. H. Staines. Mise Boen is one of Wapinitia's most charming young ladiee. Mr. Sharp is in the employ of the Wapinitia Irrigation company. They will be at borne on the Flat to welcome their many friends. Grandpa Delore Dead (Wapinitia) Grandpa Delore passed away Sunday morning at 2 oclock at the home of his son Moses Dolore after a few days' illness, and was buried iu the French cemetery west of here. Services were con ducted by Rev. Bevier. I have been requested by the Federal District attorney to give notice that the circulation, ex change and Bale of a book known as "The Finished Mystery" is pro hibited by federal law. It is one of the textbooks of the International Bible Students' Ah. sociation, compiled from the works of Charles T. Russell. This book has recently been under investiga tion by the Federal Diutrict attor ney, and the decision from that office is that "The Finished Mystery conies under the law of the United States prohibiting the circulation of seditious literature As prosecutions for violation of this law are federal matters, any information should be submitted to the U. The Catnpfire girls will meet with Mrs. C. B. Dahl on the 28th to make candy for the local sol diers, All are welcome to come by bringing either two cups of sugar, one cup eyrup or a pound of nuts. J. B. Isabell was transacting business in Dufur on Tuesday. Frank Wing has purchased the Backus ranch north of town and moved his family there last week. W. ileaith who purchased the A. A. Bonney ranch is having the excavation made for a concrete basement tinder the new house he will erect the coming summer. He is also building a concrete garage, Earl Rhoades of The Dalles has been visiting relatives and friends here the past week. Bonney home Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Grimes who spent the winter in California returned to their home here the past week. Mr. and Mrs. W. Grem of Irn bler, Oregon were visiting friends here Monday. Mrs. Grem, form erly Mrs. R. B. Doering, has many friends here who were glad to see her. The Home Economics Club held here on the 20th was attended by a majority of the ladies of the community and the teachings of Miss Becken were practical and economical. A. M. Young departed Friday for Moro where he : assumed the office of city marshal Monday. He will move the family over as it is convenient for a house there, Mrs. Geo. Foster and little daughter departed for their home in Bend Tuesday after having visited her father and brother for the past three weeks. Geo. Woodruff and M. M. Mor riB were Dalles visitors Wednesday It will cost you a jitney to talk local if you are not a subscriber. Roy Slusher is very desirous that a Maupin home guard com pany be formed. All men who are interested, leave thoir names at Staats' store, and if sufficient number an evening will be set for meeting to form organization. The Dalles and Dufur each have companies and Maupin should not be behind. . Economics Club Miss Becben, the government home economics demonstrator was in Maupin and met with the club at the school house Wednesday evening and spoke on the subject of the new war flours and their substitutes. About 40 were pres ent and express themselves as well pleased with the instruction given. Miss Bechen will be here again iu about three weeks. New Principal The high school the coming year is to be standard three year course. Prof, and Mrs. Kellogg have declined to succeed themselves here the coining year, having been offered what they thiuk better po sitions at Moro. Through the recommendation by Dr. Stovall of Prof, A. L. Applewhite of Coryal lis, the local board have been for tunate in arranging a contract for the coming year. Mr. Applewhite i highly recommended, having laught in a number of high schools mid O. A. White River Mr. and Mrs. Garns stopped over at Tygh Valley on their re turn wedding trip from Portland, Mis. Garns wa3 formerly Mrs. H. B. Doering of White River. A. Svaigber of the Oregon Junk Metal and Hide Co. of Portland is here this week on business. Charles A. Kelson of St. Paul, Minnesota was called to Sberar as his mother was very low, but is somewhat improved at 'present. Mr. Nelson is a Bargeant in the U. Army. Mrs. Elsie Layerty, Letter and Miss Maggie Eatorp motored from The Dalles last Wednesday, bring ing Mrs. Milstead and spent the day at the home of Mrs. Laverty's sister, Mrs. David Hess. They also met Rev. Burns at the 11 :15 train who accompanied them back to The Dalles in the evening. Mrs. L. B Haines and Clifford came down from South Junction last Thursday, returning Monday morning. Mr, Haines and Lyle went to Portland and returned Sunday night. Mrs, Coberth went to The Dalles last week. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Webb went to The Dalles last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Joles are stopping at W. C. Lucore's at present. They received a letter from Oaius, saying trie weather was fine at Camp Green, he is well and ex pects to be sent across to Francs soon.
