Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Wilson and Einkie Tapp came out from the mountains Friday and on Fri day Mr. Wilson received a mil from The Dalles telling him he had been chosen as I bo one man to go from Wasco connty on Sept ember 5th to join the National army, Sheriff' Chriaman told him it wasn't compulsory that be go at this call, but Mr. Wilson decided to go, and on Tuesday with bis wife and parents and Ruby, Len ard and Donald left for The Dalles and today, Wednesday, he will go on to Portland and from there to American Lake, lur. ana Mrs. Bevier gave a re ception at the parsonage Monday evening for Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Wilson. About thirty people were present to bid Mr. Wilson farewell Mrs. N. G. Iledin and little daughter Neva who have been in Portland the past two weeks re turned to their home here Monday , Earl Rutherford of Portland, brother of Mrs. Hedin is visiting at their home here. Word reached hero last night that Mr. Jake Holland had passed away at The Dalles Tuesday and would be buried here at the Kelly grave yard Thursday by the side of his Vife who died several years ago. They cameyin a Stude baker car driven by their son. When near Goldendale, Wn., thev met with an accident, their car turning over. Mrs. Morgan was badly bruised, no bones broken; Hazel was hurt slightly. O. R. Fleck and family return ed Friday evening from a two weeks' trip in the Willamette Valley. They succeeded in imttinr them out, but not until the hair was burned from their horses' lege IMMENSE EXCAVA HONS COMPLETED Fine Grad Sidney Wilson Honored Sidney Wilson left The Dalles Tuesday night to commence train ing for military service. The citi zens of The Dalles held a meeting The extensive excavations which have been in operation this sum mer preparing the location for the Maupin Warehouse and elevator, the new O. T. depot and, side tracks, and a wide wagon grade loading to them, were completed Saturday. The work covers a: distance of about half a mile in length, and varying from 50 to 200 feet in width. A ditch below the warehose and beside the track for nearly a quarter of a mile. 12 feet deep and 30 feet wide has been filled in with part of the earth from the exoavations above.
