D. Driver and W. E. Wood cock made a trip to The Dalles Wednesday. Mrs. J. R. Woodcock is improv ing under the medical treatment in Portand and will return home soon . Jim Miller who was called to Portland on account of the illness of his daughter,- Dori3, returned Wednesday. Miss Miller, being threatened with lung trouble was placed in a sanitarium. Claud Poberts went to The Dalles today to bring his mother, Mrs. Nettie Miller, home, she be ing able to leave the hospital. Vernie Norvel went to The Dalles today, bringing back Miss Hilda Lake and Mrs, Francis Ward and three children who are from Davenport, Wn. Carl and Crystal Pratt visited at the C.H.Walker home near Wapiaitia today. Mrs. Florence Wonderly of Falls City and Mrs. Hiram Donnelly of Portland, and families spent a few days last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Ulingsworth. Paul Illingsworth and family who spent two weeks at their homestead on Middlebrook return ed Saturday to Grass Valley. Frank Xavier returned a week ago Monday from a two weeks' iUj in California. Mr. and Mrs. Will Gulliford ar rived here at midnight last night from Portland and were guests of Mis. Gulliford's grandparonts, Mr and Mrsr A. J. Swift. Frankie Spath, the youthful chauffer, took his father and Heu ry Miller to Maupin Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kennedy, Andy Baile3 and Mrs. Mary Beaty Wdut to Maupin Saturday. Miss Gertrude Crabtree left Sat urday for Portland. Don Miller accompanied by Mrs Miller and baby Val, Mrs. Aon Wing and Mrs. Lois. McCowan and baby Gila went to Maupin today, Mrs. Wing went to have Dr, Elwoed remove a ' piece of straw from h'er eye. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Magill and little daughter Naomi went to The Dalles Sunday, Mrs. Magill and daugbser going on to Portland where they will visit relatives. White River Miss Amy Squires who has been spending her vacation with her pother Mrs. E. S. Doering, return ed fa Portland last week. Hjr broth jarold accompanied her. Haines of South Junction, formerly of Maupin, is quite sick. Heading is over and threshing has begun here. Mrs. Milstead and daughter, Mrs. Laferty returned to The Dalles Sunday., Tygh Valley Last Week Mrs. La Vern Woodruff spent last week in the Dalles visiting friends and relatives. Dr. and Mrs. B. C. Ol'mger and Dr. and Mrs. Esson of The Dalles spent Sundav here. Dr. Shannon made several trips to The Dalles last week to visit Willis Norvel in the hospital there Mr. and Mrs. John Scott, form er residents of this place, visited here last week- Mrs. A. M. Young and daughter Naomi returned home last Sunday after a visit in the Valley. Kcv. G. H. Harrison was here several davs last week to move his household goods. They are mov ing to Monument where Mr. Har rison has a charge. Mr. Laferty who died in The Dalies last week was buried here Friday. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs,. May Hess. Mrs. C. V. Woodruff is on the sick list this week, Heading has been going on at the Chas. Wing place this week. Henry Miller made a trip to I he Dalles last week. Van Woodruff spent a few days here last week. The Campfire Club served ice cream in the old drug store build ine Friday and Saturday of last week. Miss Aver Black returned fiorn Monmouth Saturday the 28, where she attended normal school. Hill has rented the West fall ranch and is moving this week Dr. Elwood made professioal calls Saturday at the homes of G. R. iledferd and I. T. Courtright. Walter Lcdford has a'beauiiful robe made from coyotes' hides and which will be on exhibit at he Tygh Valley fair. Walter has s;ne very fine furs which he has tanned. A. J. Mrs Stovall and mother motored with him. A. F. Efick was a business vis itor in jtowb Monday. While traveling in a caravan with his son, hopiog to benefit his fast failing health, John W- Ba shaw, an aged man, died last night near Bakeoven, where the two had stopped to camp for the night. The remains were brought to The Dalles and sent on today on the 2 o'clock train to Portland for interment. W. A. Bashaw, the son, accompanied the remains to Portland Chronicle, August 3. Hauaer lest last week for a month's tour in Southern Oregon and California. Several yonng men were, invited to accompany the Campfire girls on their monthly hike last week. Refreshments were served at the headgate of the flume. Frank McCorkle's sale was well attended ; people from all parts of the country were there. Grover Webb is moving to the power plant this week. Miss Miherva Thrall was visit ing friends here the fore part Cf the week. Miss Thrall was thff first teacher employed when this district was formed. The Misses Fischer and Flana gan motored to The Dalles Mon day. They were accompgnied by Mrs. Ray Aubrey who went on to Hepner to visit a sister. Work on the new elevator and the grade leading to it is progress ing rapidly. The crews have been working considerable extra tirr.9 in order to rush the completion sufficiently to take care of the present grain crop. The building has now reached a heighth of 4 feet.
