Mr. and Mrs. Hedin returned from Portland the last of the week Mr. Uedin's mother and sister ac compafiied them borne. . Sidney Wilson made a trip to The Dalles Monday, taking ,in the families of Mr. Lee and Mr. White -cotten where they have renbd places. Emil Heckler made a trip to Portland, the first of the week, taking dovv a car of beef cattle. The cattle men of this Vicinity are camped at Beaver creek this week and riding after beef cattle. They will ship to Portland Satur day. : Miss Irene Doyle who is a nurse at The Dalles hospital arrived home Friday evening on her two week's vacation. Tbo families of 'CswalJ Bru.'rivcr and Jim Gray spsnt a few days at Clear Lake this week. Mr. and Mrs. Geo, Magill and sons were over from Wamic Sun day afternoon and visited at the Fiinn home. Mr. and Mrs. Foreman were Maupin visitors Saturday. The road across the mountain? is open for travel now. One man came across last week on a motor cycle and two more, went across from this side Tuesday horsoback. Mrs. May Barzee of his place is quite sick at The Dalles hospital and will be operated on Thursday, She left here Monday going in with her parents,, Mr. and Mrs. Harpham of Manpin. It is a slow process for water to make ita way throuh a dry dirt chanel, which necessarily soaks up a large qnanily of water. The large part of the work thus far this season has consisted in e1uc ing out and pormantly strengthen' ing the big cut against slides which would stop the water. The graduation of the 1917 class of trained nurses at The Dalles hospital training school for nurses leaves vacancies for young women - Kvho desire to become professional nurses.
