Evick and Grandpa Evick were Sunday vis itors at the G. E. Wood Nome to help partake of th'e Sumptuous dinner, prepared by Mrs- Wood in honor of her husband's birth day- In they afternoon they motored to White river hill to View the' new grade that fs being made up Pitcher Canyon. They report the grade almost complet ed, which when done will be a great improvement to our Coun try. Mrs. Anna Smith is employed by Mr3. Jake Davidson for the coming summer, they co'minn after her last Saturday. C. L. Nelson made a busrnoss trip to Maupin last Thursday. Peter' Olsen came up from MauVin, returning Sunday. W. $. Patterson and 1 Charlie Tapp carried the matt to Sim nasho last Saturday. John Lewis, who is doing the Spring work on his farm north of here, came Saturday to spend Sunday with his family. Herbert Lewis and Herbert Ham mer went to The Dalles this week to make final proof en their homesteads, Lincol hartman tak inff them to Maupin in his car to meet the night train. Ed. Davis made a trip to The Dalles last week taking Grandma leitz' household goods to that place. Despite the big snows and heavy rainfall the past season, fall sownrain doesn't look very promising in this section. Stand is very poor most places, ex treme dry weather last fall kept it from coming up, and worms are working on it on some farms. Easter services are being plan ned to take place at the church. There will also be baptismal ser vices if the weather permits. Geo. Hiller, formerly of this place, having spent the past year or two in New York, returned here last week. Mrs. Katie Amen made a busi ness trip to The Dalles Saturday, returning Sunday. One wouldn't have thought this a dry town had they happen ed through here last Saturday. Dee Woodside's stand pump, near Evick's store suddenly became unmanageable, and it looked for a while as if an artesian well had suddenly sprung up,' and it con tinued a two inc.h flow of water until Mrs. Woodside Could learn from Dee,- who was at The Dalres how to shut it off. AH, S. marshal was here the last of the week looking after Adolph Stehlin, who myster6usly disappeared from this place last fall. He was known to have left here1 last fall for Sunflower Flat, but failed to have reached there, and has not been heard of since. We understood the Smock boys were coming over last week to orgaixe'a team, but they failed to put in their aspearance. Our high school boys are clearing land for a ball ground aud expect to organize Saturday. David Sharpe made a trip through eastern Wasco county and Sherman, recently, returning Tuesday. V.
