Oregon, as second class The following are some of the Epigrammatic statements made by Henry Ford, on the treat ment of Labor, before the Fed eral Industrial Commission in iw York in January: My motto is and always will be to aid men to help themselves. Justice! not charity, is what he worker desires. We cannot expect a man to give up his best efforts when he M in aeDt ana nas noi enougn io keep his family on. No working man can bring up .a family and hope Jto own a home pn the ordinary rate of wages. The sooner men can be taught f hat labor is just as much of an (asset, and more so, than build ings, the sooner wijl labor be properly handled. If the employers of labor have p. genuine interest in the improve rnent of the condition of labor, no conditions that are irksome or distasteful will be placed upon the men. Our first purpose was substan tial justice to pur co-workers, without whom we could have accomplished nothing. We had had great success, and in fact we desired no greater success from a mere financial point of view. We did not regard our plan as in any sense a gift or charity, but only the due reward for service. We never discharge a man from the service of the company until he has been proven utterly unfit from every standpoint. If he fails to make good in one de partment, the foreman of that department sends him to the "clearing house'.' and he is given repeated trials in every depart ment until he makes good or it is proven that he does not want to succeed. We believe if is bettor, wiser, and more just to make many men comfortable than to make a few very rich. -Ford Times. LOCALS AHArpundTown Try) Sat. night band dances.
