North America Jumped, to 4.000,.

Pike or Rowland school alumni
association was held In the Pence
grove Sunday, beginning at 11
o'clock, a. m. Memorial services
were observed first In which the
memory of the following alumni
who died In the past year were
honored: Mrs. J. M. Howe, Eu
gene; Mra. Wm. Davidson. Browns
ville; Mrs. Ed Drlnkard. Chewnleh,
Wash.; Mrs. Opal Sickles Barnes,
Carrier, Okla., and Mlsa Nona Le
Vaugh. Peoria.
Following the picnic dinner a
short literary program and In
formal talks helped the passing of
the pleasant afternoon. About 70
members and friends of the asso
ciation participated. The mem
bership is made up of 198 students
nnd 31 teachers. Two of the
Pioneer teachers. George Waggon
er of Eugene and Mr. Crawford of
Shedd, attended. Several ex-pu-

to the coast city Monday.
The new union high school
board met Monday evening, the
purpose being the preoaratlon br

chosen of the financial apportion
men ' for the ensuing year. Ten
men constituted this committee,
each of the five union directors
selecting one other for this duty.
The board will meet again In spe
cial session. 8:30. Friday evening
July 7. Interest In the grade school
election Friday afternoon was
light, but a dozen voters taking
time to be present. John w. Owen
was unanimously chosen as three
year director and W. E. Wads-
worth slmllarily returned to the
clerkship.
