MINISTER GETS SURPRISE
REV. A. J. SMITH AND WIFE
GIVEN CHRISTMAS BOX
Rev. and Mrs. A. J. Smith of
Irving, who were remembered at
Thanksgiving time with a donation
of good things from many friends,
were again . surprised yesterday
when a Christmas box containing
sunnly of groceries and provi
sions besides a purse containing a
good-sized sum of money, was
taken to tnem at tneir Jiome.
Rev. Mr. Smith, in writing the
Morning Register to ask that pub
lic acknowledgement of the gifts
be made through its columns,
says:
to say tnat Mrs. smun ana x
are very thankful for and greatly
appreciate these gifts, is express
ing It too lightly. We are simply
overcome and our feelings deeply
moved by this second expression
of loving regard and sympathy.
Coming at this time, as I am slowly
recovering from my long and se
vere illness, It ..seems like an up
lift on the journey of life.
I also wisn to Bay inai in tne
fall of 1919, 1 accepted a call and
became pastor of the United
Brethern church at Irving and un
til obliged to resign the pastorate
on account of failing beaith, our
four years of service with these
dear people was such as to formu
late a strong and lasting friend
ship."
